This is a beautiful tanka, the words of which describe perfectly the creative spirit. In five short lines, you have summarized the sources of inspiration for the ever-searching artist. Bravo!
As a tanka, it is technically perfect with your two interconnected lines and the pivot line able to stand on its own, as well as the last three lines do.
Beautiful work and a pleasure to read. Best of luck in the contest.
Regards,
Lena

You are so welcome. Yes, I am doing well. my family is preparing for my 10 year old Granddaughter's, Sarah, brain surgery next week. It will be her third in 14 months. It's a harrowing time, but we are grateful we have skilled surgeons.
-
Praying for Sarah. It's a very intense thing to go through multiple surgeries. Having skilled surgeons is a huge boon. She's a brave girl, I sense. Sending lots of love and healing thoughts. Hugs, rd

The first two lines of this poem signify a search for inspiration. The artist looks at things and nature among his surroundings with a discerning eye. Maybe a third eye which can see what ordinarily cannot be seen. Thus inspired, creating his art into pleasing sights for ordinary eyes to behold and the music artist composing sounds that is soul uplifting.
Through their music and paintings, we glimpse a part of their souls.

I really like the idea of being able to see the radiance in music and how it can paint a symphony in one's mind. A nice metaphor for the beauty of music being an art.

To be honest, I don't think it's difficult to find radiance in music and paint symphonies into art. The light is already there and doesn't need a poet's eye. Maybe the observations should be in things like dark alleys?
Just a thought that crossed my mind. Or instead of a royal artist, maybe a homeless man? I have to give a four because this doesn't work for me. If you can explain it....

Thanks for your honesty--which I always appreciate.I entirely disagree with you. A poet's eye should voice the light, IMHO. You are asking me to write on a different subject that I wrote on. I was not aiming to write about dark alleys or the homeless in this poem. Personally, I never give fours when I do not agree with the subject if the form is flawless, dear. In my opinion, a review's rating is not meant to be a reflection of your personal taste but simply an indicator if there is room for improvement in the delivery of the INTENDED message. My two cents. I know you meant well--no offense taken. I simply disagree with you.
Love,

Point taken. I reread it and refocused. Now I get it and see it from a different angle.
I upgraded the rating.
-
Aw, thanks. That's nice of you, dear. I really welcome lower ratings when they make sense...and I appreciate your taking time to read again and reconsider. Love, rd

Thanks for your kind comments, Gert. The word ROYAL is used because the original artwork this is based on has an image with a crown of light--like a halo - and so it is meant to signify a spiritual synergy. :)
-
Thank you for the meaning of the word royal in your poem
