If that doesn't explain the pain of a migraine I don't know what does. I love your picture and beat red background. It really brings out the torture that your poem aims to describe. I enjoyed your lack of capitalization and your quick lines. Very well done. -Nina

As I read your poem, Teresa, I thanked my lucky stars that I am not afflicted with migraines. I whine even when I have a small headache. Your description of the pain is strong and impactful, and I am sorry you have to suffer.
Your poem is well written. I love "Aunt Jemina's turban!"
Thanks for a wonderful poem, as always. Take care. Alana

Hi, Teresa,
Yuk, migraines SUCK!
I had them with hubby #1, but when I divorced him the migraines took a hike. Woohoo!
I think that would be a drastic approach for you since you love your wife very much. (*.*)
Soooo, I say it could be a trigger from your surgery. They can really affect a person in so many ways. After affects from the anesthesia maybe? I've heard that can happen, not sure if it is true or not.
I remember having to be driven to the doctor for knockout shot, because by the time I got home I'd be in la la land.
I hope you get to feeling better soon, my friend. OH! You might try the 'banana split therapy!' Hey, it can't hurt even if it doesn't help!! LOL
Cheers & Blessings

Hi Teresa - an excellent description of a migraine. You have my commiserations - I used to have them so I know how you feel. It's horrible. Nevertheless, I have to say this is a good free verse -- good use of metaphor in 'dowsing the burning fires'. Warm regards Dorothy

Thanks Dorothy:) How did you get rid of having migraines?
-
Hi Teresa - I didn't do anything. They just stopped. I have not had them for a few years now. I remember the room swimming and I couldn't turn over in bed on to my right side without feeling horribly dizzy and flashing lights just out of my vision - to the right and horrible headaches. It may have been stress related, I'm not sure, but it was while I was teaching. I've heard of tablets 'Migrelieve' but have never taken them so I don't know how effective they are. Hope you get better soon. It is a horrible thing. Dorothy x

Thanks Dorothy. It sounds like you had them as bad as I do now. I'm glad they went away for you.

Hi Teresa - with luck they will go away for you also - fingers crossed. Dorothy x

Ouch. Even the visual hurt. I don't even know how you wrote a poem about this. Your words are making me dizzy reading it.
Post surgical migraines? Hope they pass. Good job.

Teresa, you have powerfully described intense pain to help those who do not know how that kind feels. I'm so sorry for you about this condition. Well done, my friend. GracieAnn

Some people think they have pneumonia when it's just a heavy cold, and others think a slight headache is a migraine, Teresa, but from your graphic dramatic and well-written descriptions here, you're obviously a genuine sufferer, sadly, and you have my sympathy.
I'd prefer this broken into short random-length stanzas, with line spaces, to allow the reader to pause and ponder more at dramatic moments, but that's just personal taste.
Best wishes, Ray xx

No probs, Teresa.
I just reviewed 'True Grit' by 'ravenblack', and his presentation is exactly what I meant. A Terrific thought-provoking and weird read. I'd recommend anyone to take a peek.

There is a certain treatment can be done for this type headache. I know someone who suffered much with it and she went somewhere and got help. Not sure. Google may have info.

Migraines are psychosomatic maladies par excellence. They blossom from our anxieties and depression though we regress to blame it all on something we ate. Our sensitive poet seems to be burned and cowered by the fires of hell. It might be his muse inspiring him to produce such flashing, striking poetry. I think that those of us stricken migraines know of the kaleidoscope of spinning color and it is not that the gates of heaven are opening. Take comfort in the knowledge that as we grow older, headache wanes.
A starkly real poem! -Ekim777

I am so sorry that you must go through this. I fortunately do not get them anymore but your have certainly described the hell that is migraine. The picture brings along the frenzy, the sickness and the pain. The colors are intense and that gives a clear message. I truly hope that you find relief and peace. God bless.
