Yes I know I can't see when I get mine and have to sit in the dark.
well described in this free verse form.
Your font is well chosen and that swirling abstract, pretty much manic like a migraine.
Try tai chi and yoga.

Thanks. I do know that yoga helps but it is hard to do it when you are in so much pain. Also can't do them now because of my shoulder surgery.

Sorry of course you can't, my husband had a bad back and hydro therapy was so effective. If you have A hydro pool near you give it a go.

You might start relaxing. Migraines can be brought on by stress or just simply thinking too much; in terms of things to do, situations to attend to or simply being too overactive.
When I get mine...usually from stress or not eating all day...or both. I have to take a couple of painkillers at first signs or... too late.
Nice image . Perfect for your theme.
Hope they subside soon.
Best wishes,
RG

Sheesh, Tab - so sorry for your pain.
However, you wrote an excellent free verse showing just how it felt.
Very creative and expressive.
Here's hoping you feel better soon.
Well done.

Hi Teresa,
I like your poem. I can imagine how terrible migraine headaches can be. The kind I have are bad enough for me. I hope your pain will leave you soon. I know it's a chore for you to deal with them.

Hi Teresa, I am so sorry to hear that you suffer from these terrible migraines my friend, your wonderful free verse poem explains exactly what happens when you get one, It is full of imagery and vivid description, I am not sure it would have been set off by surgery though.

Wow! What a way to describe a headache. Didn't know it until I read your author notes. Very creative, as your metaphors bring the pain to life. Especially like this part:
"the weight of the heavy frozen gel pack
tied around my head
like Aunt Jemima's turban
Keeps me still
In darkened room"
Wonderfully. Crafted. Les

Theresa: I am so sorry about that pain of which you suffer. I usually think that people experiencing bad headaches have a secret of which they need to let go. Anything burning a hole in your soul? Your words/colors/picture tell us how miserable you are feeling. Get better soon. Linda

Ahh...they are the worst. I can expect a cluster of them several times a year. Being outside for too long is a trigger for me. I think your description is horribly accurate; the nausea is one of the worst aspects of the experience...

Thanks so much. Yes, the nausea is horrible. I couldn't talk without feeling it. I don't like the spinning room much either.

Och...I've lived there those. I despise migraine's. You've described this poem very well!
Two friendly suggestions because I don't know the severity of your pain:
1. A extra cold bottle of Coke Cola and 3 BC Powders. Open up the paper wrapping of the BC powders transfer the powder into one of the paper wrappings. Tilt head back and pour it almost to the back of your tounge but resting on it so you don't choke. Quickly drip a good amount of the coke. It has a bad taste. The Coke does two things: 1. Minimizes the bad taste and 2. Decreases the pain quicker
2. Get some rubbing alcohol and inhale it..Not until your high, but until it burns your nose just a little. Hold one nostril down while you inhale it in the other.
Yes...these are pretty old school but they WORK at least for me and others whom have tried this. This is pretty much a ritual for me as anytime I get a headache, I keep the BC powder with me. It works a lot faster than any migraine meds I've taken.
I will be praying for healing as well!

I have never heard of these remedies but am willing to try anything. What is BC powder though? Thanks for the suggestions and the review:)
