I found this absolutely fascinating. I am so pleased you were finally able to connect with some of your family and now have photos to go with the early portion of your life. Under the circumstances, I have to agree it is amazing that you turned out so well. Many cannot say that. Great work with this glimpse into a small portion of your life.

That's one good biographical glimpse, Mikey. Yes, the psychologists would conclude you are an anomaly, to be stable, given your upbringing.
The world's better for it, at least our little patch of California.
Good work.
quite a few people speak [You used "quite a few" two lines up from this. You might want to find a substitute.]

This is a real nice story. I love the flow of it and how you tell us of your history. Besides this short story, this would make for a very interesting book, as I am sure you left out lots of the drama and details of your life. I would especially love to hear more about the time once you were reunited. Good stuff. -Judy

What a sad thing to be denied part of your family. I am so glad you were able to at least meet the aunt and get to know the other part of you. I'm sure your mother had a valid reason, if only in her mind. Great story that was nostalgic yet not wore is me. Great job. Gretchen

What else is new. It seems Michael (Which means Like unto God) is a normal product of a failed civilization where the past, anyone's past doesn't matter much though Michael seems obsessed with finding his identity. He is looking in the wrong places. He needs to look into himself right now. That's where the truth lies. Have a good life Mickey. -Ekim777

Life is really strange sometimes isn't it Michael? It makes me wonder if there is a blueprint for our lives that we must follow. Almost unbelievable that you would find your fathers side of the family after so many years. Good story. I enjoyed the book as well. Nancy

Hi, Mikey.
What a fascinating history you have. Finding family connections after many years is very special. Your musical talents and artistic, creative side runs strongly on your father's side of the family. I'm sorry for the loss of your aunt. Fortunately, before her passing, you reunited with your extended family. Best of luck in the contest.
Bye
Rosalyne :)

How nice for you to rediscover all these relatives and with the musical connection, you knew where all that came from. How does it feel to be a Patriarch, important, as it should. It is as you say a credit to that earlier nurturing which stood you in good stead. Lovely picture of you and your dad. Well written autobiography, with the usual touch of humour and interesting story line-you! Enjoyable read. Faye

Love the true story and how a lot of us grew up so poorly in dysfunctional families yet turned out so well stable and artistic. (something to be said and studied , need to contact granny). I, too, grew up in a strange family, distant mother, over bearing dad, . Writing about the family past really heals the soul. this is very good. and a good contest entry.

A really great account of your life thus far. I never agree when persons blame their criminal behavior on some situation in their lives. You were reliable and you stepped up to the call and became a good citizen. Great job
