I would like to say that first, write for yourself. If you plan to post it, read it several times at different moods. All writing looks good, reads good and inspiring when one is in good mood. If it still looks good when you mood is low or you are grumpy, then it is worth posting.
As for reviewers, there are many types. There are the fast and furious; the slow and deliberate and the clueless who say, "I don't get what you write but the rhyme is good." Goodness! what a waste of "good" if the reader does not know what is written. Better "Skip." And watch out for "cut and paste" Joe. He'll make your feel your words are waxed.
One line praise; fast job for fast bucks.
I notice that 5-stars are almost the norm. 4-stars and 3-stars usually carry a small print that says "This does not count." To me it does count. Do not ignore it; learn from it.
Continue letting your wife and a couple of girlfriends review your work. But don't give them special treats. Many times the results will surprise you.
My example of existing in the present, past and future:
At present, as I reminisce about my past, glimpses of the future come on and off.
I would love to read your six-thousand word masterpiece. I might enjoy your comical grammar.

It's easy to see by the organization and sentence variety of this entry that you have learned how to tighten your prose. You included important tips that I have passed on in past writing essays. (I'm putting some in a script form now title "The Wannabe Writer." Love the truthful jab at five star reviews. I'm embarrassed by the ignorance of some wannabe writer.s LOL. Good luck in the contest.

I found this to be important for me to read. I tend to use really and very too much, and am trying to correct that when I write. I almost failed HS English, but have as an adult tried to study a bit on my own. Thanks for posting this. I learned some things from it. Blessings, Pat
