Your entire post seems to be encapsulated in your two opening paragraphs. The Bard states it differently when he says; "Mercy falls like a gentle rain on the earth beneath. It is twice blessed. It blesses he who gives and he who takes. Indeed it blesseth all." But isn't it strange how we value our minds over our selfless feelings; our conscious perceptions over our whole awareness. I have the good fortune of finding my guru in Krishnamurti though I would never try to emulate him. The gap is too great. -Ekim777

What a lovely quote from the Bard! Thank you. Love it. Thanks for your glowing response. I had the good fortune to meet Krishnamurti in California in 1987. Amma would likely advise you to try to emulate him no matter how big a gap...aiming high even though we may not have the capacity to reach there still makes us evolve...and then grace will also help. She tells a story of a little bird who tried to help put out a forest fire by dipping his wings in the lake and then flying over the fire to let the drops fall...an impossible task, but he tried nonetheless, with all his heart. Then, the 'gods' saw the efforts of this sincere little bird and were moved to divine intervention--making it rain. :-) Namaste, dear E. Warmly, rd

Your essay on the wisdom of following spiritual path interspersed with preachings of Amma serves to cleanse the cluttered mind. Ego and selfish interests are barriers to enlightenment of mind. Once they are banished, as you rightly explained, life becomes an art. The picture you have used is also befitting the theme.

Rama, I give you a virtual six. This is superb!! So much wisdom here! We're so used to serving ourselves. We're conditioned to. We need to unlearn that and embrace spirituality, love for others. All of us have that potential! Thanks so much for sharing, Rama!!

Dear Rama, what a beautiful essay featuring your beloved teacher's wisdom. She seems to be a true embodiment of the divine feminine, and I can see why you are so devoted to serving her ideals. You have described my dear friend Linda perfectly in this one. She is someone with a true heart of generosity and spends all her time helping others. She does this because it is in her nature, not because it gives her satisfaction of a feeling of self-reward. She continuously pays it forward with no expectation of anything other than helping someone in need. I found this deeply moving and clearly thought provoking. Marvelous entry for this contest and I sincerely wish you all the best. I enjoyed this one very much.

You speak the truths of life with grace and kindness. I have always thought of this as a cycle of grace for when we are blessed it is our mission to send that blessing back out into the world so that another may be enriched for that is how grace continues to flourish and grow in the universe. When we become self-absorbed and hold tight to what we are given in fear that there is not enough to go around, we stop the cycle that was meant to be. Your essay conveys what I believe beautifully and I thank you for sharing such wise words with us all. Good luck in the contest, but you have already won in the hearts of those who read this.

An excellent philosophical discourse on how to discover a higher consciousness within one's being & how to continue its perpetual rising through acts of kindness, thereby spreading the joy, calm, & peace of self-forgetfulness, & the letting go of one's puny self-centered ego.

Well written.

Consider: Let good deed(s) be the leaves on the tree.

Random acts of kindness, taking on others stories as your own with no thought of your own story, does crack the ego and let light in. And such a message is common to many faiths, in Christianity, the most important commandment being a prescription for such kindness, love your neighbor as you would love yourself. Excellent essay.

Ah yes--and in Judaism, the golden rule is the supreme principle. Someone asked the Dalai Lama to describe his religion in one sentence. His answer: My religion is loving kindness. Spirituality is the essence of all religions summarized as LOVE :) (plus surrender and humility...) Warmly, rd

Hello rd

Reading your most beautifully composed essay, I felt as if I had been drenched in goodness.

The ego does indeed by default breed inner angst and negative compulsion.

Your guru, Amma, she is truly described as a saint...

I shall not repeat the many sentences that I found to be wonderful, but rather express my deep gratitude for this enlightened piece of splendid writing.

Warm regards to you, rd and big smiles
