this is an excellent chapter, Barbara, soni confiscates the hitch so the poachers can't haul anything with the trailer they found, they get to the celebration and grandfather asks why they were late. then sonni prepares for the celebration. I'm guessing she's going to dress in the native American garb and dance?

Hi dear. As usual, this flows well and has life-like dialog and fine characterization. it's too short to comment on plot development...and also having not read all chapters, I'll leave that aside for more regular readers. No big spags, just one optional comma suggestion:
"And here he is(,) right on cue."
Nice authenticity in the details--especially the fine culinary details...well done. Also the prayer Grandfather made before eating. Gives it a genuine native flavor.
LOL-
"About the same time you started saying coasterners." Jim chuckled. "That's a mouthful."
I thought so too! LOL
YES YES YES-
"They do. Native Americans prefer to live off the land. They believe if they take care of the land, the land will take care of them."
Warmly,

Thanks dear B. I've been less active on FS lately (past few months) and will continue to be less and less here--as in Dec, my membership expires. I'll stay on as a standard member ad still review sometimes. :)

Most celebrations have a majority of the Indians dressed in traditional clothes. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a good read

Hmm... wonder what Soni's planning to participate in. Eating cactus might be dangerous... guess they take out the thorns, though. LOL! So, we still don't know what the four men were after. But there's safety in numbers, so they should be safe on the reservation... I hope. ;)

I'm sorry I'm a drop in reviewer, but I'll try do the best that I can! the Australian aboriginals have lived off the land for many generations, and we've had a 'bush tucker man' reveal the food that is edible and nourishing, they live off whatever is available. I related to your story in some ways, it was interesting and 'palatable' no pun intended, characters unrecognised but believable, the storyline well designed and composed, good write, blessings, Roy.

This is a nice slice of Native American culture without being too preachy. I was half-expecting Jim or Alex wonder how the Great Spirit helping the Native Americans if they live in poverty, but you didn't go that way. Nice avoidance of the stereotype. Good job.

Just when I'd given up finding anything exciting to read! six stars for providing some entertainment. I like the way you have Soni give Jim the description of the reservation. It works well. Interesting details about the foods being served. Some sounds good, others not. At least the party appears to be going on without incident, but those who are determined to harm Soni and the ranch aren't easily stopped. Clever the way she took the hook-up bracelet to prevent the suspicious strangers from making off with any livestock. Interesting conclusion. Sounds like some kind of costume affair. judp

This was well written, and I enjoyed the table talk. What a surprising menu! Imagine having all those contrasting meats on one plate. I'd certainly give it a try.
