What an awesome story! (poem) I relate to down to earth tales, and this one is a real winner. Did it ever happen? It seems plausible.

Thanks for the awesome review! Yes, it's a true story, I just embellished it a little. The hen really did raise the little ducks and freak out when they went in the water. Thanks again for the six.

What a wonderful story, Cindy! Nature surprises us, I believe. I think we could learn a thing or two from the animals! :) So often, they are willing to care for another creature not of their own species.
Your words move with a very nice rhythm, and your rhyming is impeccable.
This is a fine entry for the contest. Best of luck! Alana

Well, Henrietta has had a unique domestic adventure, and you have described it with great imagination for those of us who were not there. I had a good time with your good poem. Well done.

Nature is interesting, how one chicken will raise ducklings after sitting on the eggs.
You captured the whimsy of the event, the tribulation, fear, and ultimate success inside your well rhymed story poem. Great use of words such as addled, brood, and Henrietta.
Loved it. Excellent.

How delightfully you tell the tale. The mothering instinct knows no bounds! I'll bet there are a few mums around who have very much the same sort of thoughts when their darling little chicks suddenly turn into teenagers! LOL

Yes, I'm sure all mothers wonder about their offspring at times. Glad you enjoyed my little poem. Thanks for the wonderful review.

This skillfully rhymed poem tells a wonderful story that has proven true more often than some would suppose. My mother hatched domestic duck eggs under a large hen. She wadded in the pond and scolded as her babies swam.

The real Henrietta wouldn't go in the water. Maybe it was a bit deeper. The babies must have thought she was a very odd duck! Thanks for the wonderful review.

Wonderful story that can also serve as a parable to let your kids be who they are. Poor hen - I can just imagine her frightened confusion when her little web-footed chicks jumped into the water .
