As the song goes, "The weather outside if frightful, but the fire is so delightful." You have a beautiful description of the snowbound world. Snow everywhere, the black trees. It looks like a glittering snow blanket-- a great phrase. "Glaring blizzard of life" makes an excellent description. Yes, this would be a good time to stay in and enjoy the fire and some hot tea of cocoa. judi

Well done, lovely Linda. You painted an exquisite picture of deep winter...you made us fell the cold...and you contrasted it nicely with the warmth of your home and your love. Bravo!

Wow. This is gorgeous. I love free verse that uses poetic devices and uses them naturally like you've done here. They just come along with the thoughts that you let flow. A little rhyme at the right time and alliteration of certain phrases, but not to much. LOVE "turning streetlights into spotlights". Beautiful!! Wonderful in every way. mikey

This has a cozy, wintry wonderland feel. Love the alliteration throughout. Also referring to snow as white diamonds is awesome. Great descriptive metaphors that just puts me smack right in the middle of your winter. Wonderfully composed! Les

Les: thanks for reading, commenting and thinking this piece six star worthy. It isn't my winter any more. After 41 years of white and cold Michigan winters, I now live in Florida where it does not snow. Linda

I am really not looking forward to the snow. I really like your image of the bare, black-barked trees literally ripping a hole in the seen. They do stand in stark contrast, defiantly ablaze in black. Just one suggestion - "in the glaring blizzard of life"- "of life" sets the poem up as the blizzard perhaps being a metaphor for life in turmoil. I just took the poem as being about as blizzard, painting a picture of one quite well. Of life adds a metaphoric level to It that does not seem like your intent.

Thanks for reading and commenting, ravenblack. The metaphor for life is intended, just not the focus. Linda

Very good descriptions of the dreaded winter. It looks very nice but I don't need to drive through blizzards anymore and I am glad. It does have a very eerie, isolated feel to it a snowy landscape. Nice imagery and well chosen words. Enjoyable read. Faye

This scene reminds me of a scene I saw in the opening excerpts of "The lion, the witch and the wardrobe" I saw it in another work depicting the beauty of winter, this one does not contain the same words but it does contain the same theme! Well done, beautifully written, great descriptive imagery, fine work, well done, blessings, Roy.
