Hi Linda,

What a beautiful presentation. It's always interesting how people can take the same topic and spin it delightfully with their own interpretation. I was just feeling sorry for some bare trees stripped of their leaves and now I'm delighted with this winter wonderland. Well done.

Hugs,
Lou

I think you've caught the essence and zeitgeist of winter time. It made me want to get some hot chocolate and start a fire in the fireplace. A snowy winter would be great. Down here in Texas we don't really get winter anymore except for the random ice storm or two. Winter can be bleak, as you point out in this fine poem, but it can also be great.

I spent 41 years in Michigan and wrote this poem from those memories. I now live in Florida where there is no snow. I have been in San Antonio, Texas the first week of December and experienced the cold there. I also remember the ice storm in Dallas that year. Thanks for reading. livelylinda

'White' is an extremely well-written and delightfully descriptive piece. The glory of winter is shown with craft and skill. It was a pleasure to read and review this talented poet's work.

Hi Linda, what a perfectly penned free verse winter poem, I am shivering just reading it! Your description and imagery are first class, you speak of deep drifts yet we only have to have a sprinkling here and the whole country grinds to a halt.

Eric1: I live in Florida now because I can no longer deal with the cold or shoveling mounds of snow nor walking on icy sidewalks and streets; too old. But, I have 41 years of memories of Michigan winters from which I wrote this poem. Keep warm. livelylinda

Quite lovely description of a thick blanket of snow and of Winter's other aspects. Here in Chicago, I sometimes hate Winter, but there are those times when you just look out the window...!!!

Thanks!

Mike

Mike: I've never been to Chicago but spent 41 years in Michigan and have seen plenty of pictures of windy snow storms in your city. Have shared Lake Michigan with you and know that cold. Yes, it is a beauty once the wind stops and the shoveling begins . . .Too old to deal with all that now so live in Florida! Keep warm this winter. Linda

Wise choice, Linda. That is, reg. Florida! I'll very much try to keep warm this Winter. But you know, surprisingly, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but Illinois. Probably, I'm acclimated to it:-)

I simply love this poem! Having experienced hardy winters, I think you did an excellent job of painting the scene in words. A beautiful piece, well done!

Beautiful wintry write! Have you snow already? We are still enjoying the colors of autumn. When I lived in Sault St Marie, Michigan...sometimes the snow would start in September!

Hi Irish Rain: I know of Sault St. Marie, Michigan. I lived in Michigan for 41 years; grew up in Lapeer, lived in Flint, Davison, Oscoda and Durand. Worked in Flint, Detroit. But, I live in Florida now and don't get any snow at all. Thanks for reading and enjoy your upper Michigan winter! livelylinda

Lovely images of winter here! I guess you don't get it quite like that in Florida! LOL Some good alliteration throughout and I particularly liked the image of the trees that
"tear a few holes through the white shield
to flaunt their existence".

Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts on this piece. No, we don't have snow in Florida but I still have the memories of living in Michigan for 41 years and there is plenty of snow there. God bless you, Tony. Linda

I have experienced a snowy American winter Linda and I agree with all you have said. The reason I like your poem is that it has such a nice flow to it. It just goes in, starts, and tells us the story. Your chosen language aids this also. Very well done.
