Congratulations on your win. Well told in fine dash form. Justice isn't always done. Sheesh, couldn't they have waited for the DNA results?? That's bureaucracy for you ..... slow as a wet puddle. so Randal did it ... I suppose he'll get a suspended sentence or five minutes in jail.
Oh well one more innocent bites the dust for injustice and ignorance .... we should be getting used to it by now. Not my fault .. everyone else did it.

That would majorly suck. To go to your grave not only innocent, but innocent and telling them the whole time who really did it. Then to have to pay for that crime you didn't commit. Wow.

Sounds like he needed Barry Sheck of the Innocence Project.
This work makes us all rethink the US Justice System.

I think this would have been a great flash fiction if you had the dna results at the end to prove the innocence. The impact at the end would have been forceful. The way you laid it out, the ending was no surprise, like a good flash fiction should be.

Interesting take I suppose. The focus of the story was the reactions of the characters to their involvement in a miscarriage of justice and the efficacy of the death penalty as an answer to crime. Having the DNA results at the end wouldn't be a surprise in my opinion. But, good input. Thanks for reading!

This is maybe the best of these short pieces which I have read. It didn't feel sketchy and it didn't seem contrived. This was a well conceived and well written entry.

I love the picture. I love the story. It is the worse nightmare of the legal system. They killed a innocent man. They had plenty of warning, but they ignored it. We need to get rid of the Death sentence. It costs too much. We can hold twenty men in prisons for what it cost to kill one man. No innocent will die. Great work.

How sad; a tragic end to a mistaken identity.
I see Linda and John as two agents responsible for the conviction. How these two carried their guilt feelings is only to be wondered at. That they should have asked for DNA testing before the execution is a late consideration.
What a waste that an innocent man dies by mistake. Just another collateral damage victim of a failed justice sytem.
