Terrific essay, BG. I like your attitude and found myself in a couple of places here. I have started to notice older people and how they walk and look. I'm fascinated by women who still has a spring in their step, though there may be a hitch or two along with it. It's the eyes that tell so much for me. This is a great contest entry, and I wish you good luck with it.

Bravo! Very well said. Inspirational. Just what I needed to hear at this point. Wish I had another six for you, but I'm sure this essay will get plenty. :)

boxergirl: I enjoyed reading this essay because I am 66 years old and don't have a clue when I got here; just woke up old one day . . . I have tried many of your suggestions for staying on top of the 'old' game, and they do work. I was diagnosed with heart disease at age 48 (had my first of six heart attacks and first of two open heart surgeries) and last year diagnosed with CHF and told to go home (from the hospital) and get ready to die. That makes things a bit more difficult to overcome but I still have my sense of humor and have risen above it all. This was a good reminder that I'm once again on the right track. My physical activity is limited now but my brain keeps on working! Good luck in this contest. livelylinda

Thank you for your review, Linda and for sharing your story. I know you have had a tough go of it, but it sounds like you are a fighter and are making the best of it. I think having a sense of humor is huge in dealing with the curve balls in life. Keep working that brain and move around as much as you can. God Bless! 8-)

"The Aging Process" I can honestly say that I already feel a lot better and (younger) just by having read this great pep talk you have created here. Well done.

Lots of good advice in this essay, boxergirl.
And aging is a topic of universal interest.
But I can't help feeling that your presentation
is on the dry side. Probably just me.
But I'm thinking just a little more attitude, and
a little more 'relaxed' approach might make the piece
more accessible.
Just a thought.
Peace, Lee

Hey, Lee, I agree with you and I love that type of writing. Erma Bombeck was a favorite of mine. You are also a natural at that style of writing. Maybe I could borrow a cupful of wit from your bag of stuff. lol
Again, thanks for the review and the advice. I will keep working on it for sure. 8-)

Thanks for the pep talk and it's all so true
Exercise is vital, positive attitude, learning new things.
I can't believe your mum, your in a good gene pool there.
Don't forget a glass of wine with meals, good for keeping the blood thin.
Champagne adds sparkle

A well written article on some of the ways to age gracefully. You've done an excellent job with this, boxgirl. Consider submitting it for publication to AARP's magazine. :) Nancy

Written smoothly enough to read easy and I really like the
collection of quotations. Original or not, they go well in one place to read together.

Very thorough, very well written, and funny in places. Thanks for sharing! This kind of non-fiction is always needed. Obviously, e'one gets old, and most folks want to know how to slow the aging process!
Peace!

Karen;
I like your writing very much for its incorporation of the three entities of PMS- physical, mental and spiritual aspects of how not to grow old and how to defeat the aging process. I find myself a little overweight due to my health issues but soon as those are defeated I will begin exercising on a regular basis as I have in the past. I do like Alan Bleasdale's three components on defeating the aging process which is exercising, studying and loving. These are very true components of defeating the aging process.
Thank you so much for a very interesting and well written exposé on the aging process which I appreciate so much.
