Ten Spindly Spiders
Halloween Counting Poem NOT for little children133 total reviews

A very clever little Halloween poem here, but I'm not sure I agree children should not read it. I think children would love it! Is this any worse than the spider washed out by the rain that they love to sing about? Lol. I loved it anyway, and I'm still a child at heart. It is a great counting poem. Some day this will have a melody attached to it and will be sung by children and teenagers on busses. That's my prediction. ;")

Thanks so much, Miss Merri. I agree that children like dark humor, but I was thinking of toddlers like Sawyer. I don't want to have him reading about slaughtered spiders quite yet. LOL :-) Brooke

Hi Brooke,
I love this because it's so wicked. I was smiling throughout and think of it as a humor Halloween poem. No, it's not for the little ones, but I'm sure the middle readers would really have fun reading it.
Hugs,
Lou

An wonderful catchy poem of perfect rhyming couplets.
I don't like spiders but I love the Halloween mayhem each
causes before its sad departure.
The alliteration of spindly spiders is catchy and effective.
The presentation is so eye catching in black and yellow.
I love the counting idea and children of an appropriate age will too.:-) Shirley

Hi Brooke. Such a wonderful children's poem for Halloween.
I don't like spiders, so it is pretty creepy to me. LOL.
I love the great imagination of the disappearing spiders and children will love it so much. Loved it!! Fia

Love this cute little Halloween ditty. The artwork by my friend Sonshine is just perfect. I enjoyed the rhythm of each stanza, Nice how you just stuck a math lesson into the fun brew.

I really enjoy these counting poems, Brooke.
Do you remember the old Burl Ives song, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly? Your spiders brought that chestnut to mind.
I like the various ways your spiders meet there end.
I've been seeing more spiders than normal in the house.
Coming in out of the cold, I suppose. Not my favorite house guests. Don't like things crawling on me.
Peace, Lee

Lee, I love that song/poem - I used to read it over and over to my kids :-) Yes, I'm not a gracious hostess when they come visiting. I've dispatched quite a few where they now reside in the great beyond :-) Brooke

Would that be ironic, Brooke? We get to the great beyond only to be greeted by all the spiders we've dispatched over the years.
You think they might be forgiving?
I borrowed a book of O. Henry stories from the library the other day. I'm seeing irony in my laundry. And my Alphabet soup.

I have a collection of his stories that I bought at the school book fair when I was in elementary school - one of very very few books I still own from back then :-)

Nicely composed, grimacing tale of Ten Little Spiders. True, this wasn't for younger children wanting happier conclusions, but would have been right up the ally fifth graders and up.
Nice cadence kept the flow moving swiftly, good rhyming scheme and everything aligned. I enjoyed reading it.

Fun and clever take on 'ten green bottles', Brooke.
This bunch of spiders sure are unlucky. ;-)
Loads of fun lines, and one of my faves, with the fun internal rhyme is:
'one who did not care to scare decided to depart' - better than getting killed like most of the others.
Nice one.
Cheers, Ray xx
