I totally loved this poem, Brooke! It is incredibly clever. Sawyer must think it's the best ever. It should be entered into the Helloween contest.
Your rhyming couplets move with a wonderful flow (this was a fun poem to read aloud). Your rhyming is really well done, and again, you've made amazing use of alliteration. This is a definite sixer. Thanks for sharing. Alana

Alana, thank you so very much, my generous friend. The kid also thinks spiders are "yucky" - he pretends to scoop up dead spiders to eat them. LOL :-) Brooke

You are welcome, Brooke! Aren't boys fun? :)
-
My daughter and I were both rooting for a girl - someone to share her fairy collection with, to dress up in frills - but now we wouldn't trade Sawyer for a whole gaggle of girls :-)

Exactly! I have two grown boys, so I know the feeling. We lost a snake once in our long shag, green and yellow carpet. Now, that wasn't so great!

A clever and just a teeny bit macabre poem just in time for Halloween! I was actually shuddering a bit as I read it since I don't really like spiders very much at all and seem to run into them much more often than I'd like.
Good couplet rhymes and wonderful use of alliterative anaphora (lol)to count down.
I think my favorite couplet is the three count. Would love to see a sequel: "There's a spider in my soup." :)
Enjoyed this!

Thank you so much, Lena - I'm learning fan story could sponsor a huge gathering of people not fans of this creature LOL :-) Brooke

What a delight! The poor spiders met such horrible deaths, and it seemed like no one noticed or mourned. The one that was stirring witches' brew and fell in was really great. Great sound of spindly spiders. Great Halloween story. I think children might like this too, as they like to be scared if it's in fun. Excellent rhyme and flow. judi

This is scary, your wors bring forth vivid images. I like the line about the spiders eating the poison fly,tow scary critters here. This poem has a strong steady beat, almost like a song,a new Halloween tradition.

Great rhyme, really good imagery. I saw all of those spiders down to the very last one. This is my favorite line:
Three spindly spiders helped stir a witch's brew --
One tumbled in the soup, so that left only two.
lol

Brooke, I enjoyed the countdown one by one. It deals with the spooky theme without resorting to crossing over the line for creepiness or evil. Apropos rhyme endings in each couplet. :0 GracieAnn

Brooke, When I first saw the title...for a moment I thought maybe you were going to allude to the recent news of that family in Missouri forced from their home by all those brown recluse spiders.
Counting poems are always a lot of fun....except when you get to the end, and there is no one left. But then again, when thinking of spiders...that is GREAT news when all are gone.
Thanks for sharing,
Blessings,
Marsha

Thanks so much, Marsha - I had not heard about that family - what a horrible thing to happen to them! Brooke
