I really enjoyed this poem. I think it fits the Halloween theme perfectly. I'm not a big fan of spiders but this was a great poem.

I loved your very sad spindly spider poem, they vanished one by one, until there was just one left, well written in rhyming couplets, Brooke, I enjoyed this as I always do! Superbly done, well done, blessings, Roy.

Hi Brooke
I enjoyed your tale of the ten spindly spiders. Nice alliteration all the way through, especially here...
"Ten spindly spiders crept among the crowd"...with "s" and "c"
My favourite couplet,
"Three spindly spiders helped stir a witch's brew --
One tumbled in the soup, so that left only two."
It is a sad tale. Spiders get a bad rap. They get rid of a lot of mosquitoes and moths during the summer. But they do make a mess with their webs. I have walked into these sticky meshes many times, face first... with all those buggy carcasses! It really creeps you out.
Nicely penned! But you don't think kids would like this one?

Kimbob

Kimbob, thank you :-) I think kids will like it, I was just afraid it was a bit grim for the nursery school crowd - but then Miranda told me she thought Sawyer would be into stomped-on spiders. LOL

Great Halloween poem Brooke. Spindly spiders will get me every time. Perfect rhyming couplets. Excellent use of alliteration with spindly spiders. Great repetition of spindly spiders to enhance the cadence.
A fun poem to read aloud.

"And Then There Were None." Remember the movie remake of Agatha Cristie's chilling novel? This is very, very well done, Brooke. I think kids would like it, too--without any nightmares coming from it. Good Luck.

I like the visual as well as the alliteration. I always enjoy your poems, bit especially enjoy those that will spark the imagination of children, certainly small children who are entertained by the repeated sounds. I truly believe that is why my children and grandchildren were drawn into their
fascination with reading. I admire your talent.

What a delicious web of drama you have spun. I was delighted by "one who did not care to scare decided to depart". All in all, a lovely counting rhyme with just the right sing-song chant for reading aloud together - especially around this time of the year!
