Ah, you tossed in darkness where you usually have light and laughter. This is a lovely poem and one that tears at the at the night but destroys darkness by a single light. Loved it.

mommydear, thank you so much for your generous response to this poem :-) Brooke

I never thought about it, but this may be the symbolism of the Catholic ritual for lighting candles for loved ones.
My favorite lines:
one spark against the theft of light
when doubt returns,
hope lives within the slightest spark
Love the author's note too.

Thank you so much, Spitfire. I'm not a Catholic and have many problems with their theology, but I have always loved the ritual of lighting candles :-) Brooke

I have problems with it too, but attend services with hubby as it comforts him when he needs it.

Thank you for this tribute to our Warrior Woman in the form of an octogram. I admired your rhymes and use of alliteration. Your "the heart knows more than thought discerns" is memorable. Peace to Maureen- Joan

Such a beautiful and appropriate poem, Brooke.
If anyone has triumphed over the dark time in and time out, it is our dear Maureen .
A perfect tribute.

AMEN! This is truly beautiful and I know she hears the words being passed from your heart to hers. We send her light and she sends us stardust in return. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Another stunningly meaningful and beautifully crafted poem, Brooke.
I wish I knew Maureen, but she is loved and has the support of so many Fanstorians.
You've done her a great honor with your poem.

Bravo! This was a wonderful poem. It reminds me that even in the darkest night there is still a flickering candle of hope. Brilliant work my friend.
