Hi Brooke, what a wonderful enlightening entry for this particular competition, your words are a complete delight to read, I would wish you luck but somehow I don't think you'll need it.

Indulging in gooey food cannot be denied, especially when chocolate is involved. "Syrup on waffles" and "berries in jam" will do just fine.

And then a more arcane combination: pickles, ketchup, and ice cream. A Master-chef creation!

A delightful poem, pointing out the truth of what kids love.

In parlance of poetry essayists, the poem is descriptive, not proscriptive. And that's what love is all about.

Good luck with the judges!

Cheers,
DW

This is yet another interesting and beautiful story that the author has created with this piece of work. Sawyer is teaching us another pearl of wisdom to help us through life.

You brought up one of my pet peeves--women's pants without pockets--I always think they must be created by male designers as a fashion statement and not for practical use! I enjoyed your love poem for Sawyer highlighting a few of his favorite things (stealing a line from Mary Poppins!). I enjoyed your rhymes and repeats plus simple, but touching message. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

Thanks so much, Joan :-) Sawyer refuses to wear pants without pockets - where the heck is he supposed to keep his keys and other treasures? LOL I'm glad you two share a pet peeve ;-) Brooke

Nothing complicated and nothing wrong with that. Nor pickles and ketchup, or fries and mayo, or sweets with pinto or navy beans. Excellent.

The images which go with this poem are so cute! This is fun to read and enjoy. Written simply with a smooth flow of words, it's a wonderful kids' story told in rhyme - perfect.

When my daughter was young, she had ketchup with everything, including Sunday roast, so at least it was a way for her to eat up her green vegies. :-)

This reminds me of 'roses are red, violets are blue' in meter.

Not a fave meter style of mine, as I find it rather abrupt, but extremely well executed by your talented pen, Brooke, and the content is great fun to read.

Best wishes, Ray xx

Thanks so much, Ray - amazing how tastes differ - Mikey wishes all poetry were written in trochaic - you two can have a duel! LOL Brooke :-)

OK, water-pistols at ten meters. :-)

It would be wonderful if 'all poetry' - that's rhymed and structured were written IN ANY TYPE OF METER on here, Brooke. :-) xx
