Hi Brooke, love the fantastic poem, I could hear it being read out loud by Vincent Price, Brilliant, and I also agree wholeheartedly with your Author notes, wish I had a six!

Thank you so much, Eric - if you hear news of Price rising from his grave, please message him that I would love him to read some of my October poems LOL :-) Brooke

I feel you, Brooke. Sometimes, we can claim to understand God; but He has said that His thoughts and ways are different from, and higher than ours. In truth, like you, I have seen it happen again and again, that bad things happen to 'good' people. I see fate as rain that falls on both the good and the bad. It is folly to try to explain God's ways in black and white. There are several shades of grey in between the two colors.
One can only in your words:
Be kind, be faithful, and be fair,
And put our trust in God when fate deals us a hard blow. If you ask me, I think we are all at God's mercy. Sorry my review turned into an affirmation of your 'little rant'
I loved the poem. Thanks for sharing.

Your poem emphasises the shades of grey in our lives with such a good metaphor, the fog itself being both grey and arbitrary in its swirling movement. I could not help thinking of several Fanstorians as I read this, not least Maureen.

I totally agree with the author in this piece of work. Many good people are struck with afflictions while bad people live good lives. There is an old saying; "The good die young." This is so true.

Thanks for the notes, Brooke. I was going there myself with you beautiful rhymes, and your notes help to clarify. I think there is more to it than simply doing good, it has to be a mind set as well. our right these priests and ministers have really missed the boat and only interested in their on material comfort. Good poem.

SOME TIMES LIFE ISN'T ALL ITS CRACKED UP TO BE AND I FEEL THE GUYS ON THE PREACHING CHANNELS ARE JUST BILKING FOLKS OUT OF THEIR MONEY. IT IS LIKE IF YOU GIVE ME X AMOUNT OF DOLLARS WE WILL MAKE YOU WELL AND CALL IT A MIRACLE. IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY. WE NEVER KNOW WHAT WILL HAVE DURING OUR LIFE SPAN.

Hi. This one is so far my fav. I did read it your way, before the notes. Shitty things happen to good people. Life just happens, it is our 'work' to stay kind, compassionate and to keep trying to find a way throguh the fog bank. Fog happens. So does life.
Thanks for the poem and thanks for the brave notes.

I admired your "fog" and "golden pass" metaphors and concluding that we cannot control our destinies by "doing good". Your rhymed quatrains are the perfect vehicle for your reflections. Thank you for your "little rant" in your notes to make sure your thoughts were clearly understood. Cheers- Joan

Brooke, I agree so much with your author notes. There is both use and abuse of religion. I tend to feel more like Billy Joel's "Only the Good Die Young". In my life experience that is much closer to the truth, I consider myself very spiritual, but once the word religion is brought in it leads to visions of those unscrupulously trying to profit monetarily on the hopes and heartbreaks of others. Great, thought=provoking write, my friend~Debbie
