This one is certainly appropriate for the time of year. Something that can hide things from view, such as the fog does, can create an eerie atmosphere. We can easily be frightened of what we can't see.

adewpearl,

Well chosen words are expressive. The theme is strong. Your feelings are expressed well. Your arrangement looks very nice. The flow is smooth.

There was no SPAG. No typos. No homophones. No problems at all.

I look forward to seeing you again.

Love you,

Oatmeal

I love your post. It is so true! Weren't we always told, be good, work hard, good things will follow you. Not so fast! We all have to contend with fog. Always warm regards, Bill

Good evening, Brooke
The fog of fate. What a great idea for a poem! You know, sometimes we find ourselves in a situation that is as scary as hell. And the only thing you can do is pray. Why are some prayers answered, and others are not? I can't say... my wife tells me to ask God some day. He has all the answers. He knows how many hairs are on my head, for Pete's sake! (And that number decreases daily!) Our names are written in the palms of His hands... "See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me." Isaiah 49:16
I remember a few years back... Judy's youngest brother, Doug, and his wife, Charlene, were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. Their kids prepared a family gathering at an inn near Kingston Creek on the Kingston Peninsula. Great meal, good times! I was alone because Judy had a bad cold at the time. It was late winter, and warmer air was melting soft snow. As we left the inn, (Kelly and Crystal paid for their parents to stay there overnight), we discovered fog as thick as pea soup. I had miles and miles to drive to the Westfield ferry on a dark country road. The only thing I could see ahead of me was about five feet of yellow line in the middle of the road. I prayed hard and fast as I gripped that steering wheel. I had no idea where I was, and creeping along at 15 miles per hour, thought I still had a long way to go...when suddenly the ferry crossing lights appeared out of nowhere. Could I be there already? I was so relieved, but also in total disbelief. I shouldn't be anywhere near the ferry so soon. It was really a mystery. When I told Judy about it, she had no trouble in believing that God picked up my car and placed it at the ferry crossing. I guess this is a real "Believe It Or Not".
But I know exactly what you're writing about. What about those poor innocent people on the jets that crashed into the Twin Towers? What about the men who are being beheaded by ISIS? Sometimes there is just no escape from fate. It doesn't matter who you are, or how good you have been. It doesn't matter if you are a missionary or a fireman, a doctor or a nurse taking care of Ebola-stricken West Africa, or a volunteer at an elementary school cafeteria. There is no easy way out. No earthly rewards. But we can pray. We can hope that God will help us. There are miracles today.
"Be kind, be faithful, and be good --
but do not think it's understood
that this will earn a golden pass
from clouds of fog that fates amass."... I often wonder how I made it to the ferry that night. I have no answers. Only questions. Why do some make it to the ferry, and others don't? And then we're over to that other often-asked question..."Why do bad things happen to good people?" But it's so true, there's no "Get Out Of Jail Free" cards for Christians.
Terrific poem! I've learned to not expect anything less from you.
Thanks for sharing.
your ardent fan,
Kimbob

Thanks so very much, Kimbob. I've driven in awful fog only a few times in my life, and remember each time as if it were yesterday.
Your examples are excellent for innocent victims. And we could compile a list a mile long... I so appreciate your generous rating, my friend. :-) Brooke

Beautiful picture to go with the truthful poem. I loved the whole of it, but these lines touched me deep.

Within the dark the sinners shout,
as do the brave, the bold and stout,
for by the fates they too are trapped,
as by the fog they are enwrapped.

I will never look at fog the same way again.

Wonderful poem and impactful rant, Brooke! I agree wholeheartedly with you. It would be so great if all it took was for us to live the "perfect" life and thus, we'd be safe from sickness and strife. No matter what they preach, it's not the case.

Great rhyming, enjambment and alliteration. Your accompanying artwork is a perfect enhancement to your words. Your poem is well worth one of my coveted sixes.

Thanks, Brooke! Alana

This is a bit darker than your usual pros. I like it - Fate is what it is and it can claim the good or bad with its indifference.

Brooke, another exceptional work. Your message is quite clear as well as the author's notes. I happen to concur with you about tv and other evangelists. I have one in particular who lives right here is Houston and has prospered a great deal from his words. No doubt, he is a great person, but his message is always that of which you speak and one walks away with certain unattainable expectations and promise.. well done.. Jimi...

Another excellent little poem you've got here. Love the author notes as well. However, I feel that the "fate" that seems to befall saint and sinner alike are the result of past karma taking fruition which too is for our overall souls development. I mean look what Jesus went through and He was about a good as they come!

I do not believe in multiple lives, which colors our interpretation of fate. :-) Thanks so much for reviewing.

I do like you rhyming poem, that does have much truth with rhyme & reason, & to beware, this fog, it can happen...I do agree with your author notes & don't usually listen to TV evangelistic ministers who promise their audience financial success....I say, Phooey!.. While they, & a lot of them live in million dollar houses because of those who supported this message & their income..And, definitely, Yes, the fog of life can catch us, even if we strive to do our very best as humane, kind people...Though with our strong faith, whatever we personally confess that to be, can help us cope & get us through the fog of life, as we all have our tales of what didn't go right for us in this world... We are only human with frailties, & vulnerable to what life can throw at us....Thanks, for sharing your poem & your author notes, Brooke.
