I hear you! So happy I got the chance to read this!
What has a child did wrong to be born with fatal diseases, what's the point of not smoking for a lifetime and be diagnosed with lung cancer? You can be a faithful church person, no matter the religion, and still the wheel of life strike you hard; not only Justice is blind, Destiny is also mute and deaf.

I am reading "Stonehenge"-Bernard Cornwell and your poem has just struck deep, along with the book.

This one goes with the others in my bookcase, but I have to praise you here too:

for fate's not earned.
Escape from fate cannot be learned.

Be sinner or be saintly soul,
there is no way to take control
of if you're swallowed or you're not
by terrors that the fates allot.

God, I wish I had half your talent! Even less...

A morning fog over the Hiawassee River on I75 killed 15, injured 50, left 75 cars in a smouldering heap like a war zone. Fog can mask horror just exactly as you say. Oh,by the way, excellent poem.

I agree whole heartedly with your little rant. One of the best examples is Job. He was a faithful man but God allowed him to be tried and tested. Joseph being pitted by his brothers, sold into slavery and then put in prison..... Oh well, the list goes on and on.... to Jesus, his disciples and Paul...
Ok, I'm through now. Enjoyed it, as always, Buck

Hi, Brooke...

I really like the way you use the fog in this poem. And with your notes, further enhances the symbolism of the fog. This is very good - thought provoking.

By the way - I agree totally with your notes! Beautiful presentation.

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'.... Jax (*.*)

Well, you got my last 6. This is beyond amazing and touched me deeply. I know so many good people that have faced terrible things such as cancer, MS, and the list goes on. We do the best we can but life does not guarantee happiness and health just because we are good. Beautiful poem and one that touched me very deeply. Thank you so much for posting this one.

Thank you so much, Valerie, for your generosity and insights. Guess when the only time I was in a serious car accident? On the way home from a church mission trip in which we had rehabbed a retreat center and worked to feed the homeless. Talk about irony. LOL Brooke :-)

I can't remember the name of the wonderful independent film where that happens. I'll have to find the title for you :-)

Ah, Brooke, I love your rant and your poem. As we stumble about in our lives, some are drawn into the fog sooner than others. There are no behavioral guarantees that we will reach the clear patch safely or simply fall over the precipice through no fault of our own. You are right, the only thing we can do is try to live our lives well so that when the fog surrounds us we can march into it with few regrets. Thanks for this, a delightfully palatable way to share your thoughts.

I understood what you were saying Brooke, It is a fact that bad things happen to good people all the time and we never understand. The order of things and what fate has in store for any of us is life's big mystery. Yes, we need to do the best we can as long as we are here and faith will see us through. Well said. Nancy

Four for you wonderful poem, and one for you Author note. Or maybe 50/50. Don't know. Since no one ever comes back to let us know what happens when we die...really no one...I like to think Karma just takes over. Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass?

I loved your poem and your little rant. It was quite insightful. And bad things happen to good people all the time. I think that it is a greater force that determines our fate for reasons that are not always apparent and often seem unfair.

"Fog" is not as scary as you could have made it. More theological than Halloweenish. Whole-hearetedly agree about the prosperity preachers on tv. Benny Hinn is one of the most outlandish. Nothing in the Bible gives any credence to this false doctrine. Quite the opposite. All the disciples except John were martyred for their faith, and millions since then. Happy Halloween, Brooke.

Thanks so much, my friend :-) Yes, many of my Halloween-inspired poems turn out to be more about other stuff than the holiday. LOL Brooke :-)
