Getting all philosophical on us, now.

The meter is particularly strong here and bounces the poem along through the four rhyming quatrains very smoothly.

Brooke, this write poses significant philosophical journeys of the mind's drive to question and grow. The rhyme is well placed and the meter balanced. Nicely penned. :0 GracieAnn

Loved it.
Thought provoking in its depth.
Heavier fare than other recent posts. Such a strong meter and rhyme scheme brought out a smooth reading tempo that allowed for the reader's contemplation and personal assessment.
So well done.

Yep, there are no dumb questions except for questions that never get asked. At least that's what a college professor once told me.

When we step out of our "comfort zones", and go off in search of answers to questions we're either afraid to find the answers to, or we simply don't want to know what those answers might be, we find that even in the darkest places there are things even there from which we can learn.

Very smooth rhythm and even meter in this one, Brooke.

Good work. :]

Thanks so much, Dean - unless, of course, one teaches middle school. LOL There I could spend ten minutes giving detailed directions for the assigned essay only to have a hand shoot up to ask some profound question like, "Does spelling count on this one?" LOL :-) Brooke

Well, they say patience is a virtue, and I imagine teaching kids takes lots of it.

    I know teaching adults does!

Patience and then, just when you think your reserve of patience is tapped out, more patience LOL

This four-stanza poem has maintained the 8 beats from beginning to end. The second and the last line of each of the stanzas rhyme pretty well. The writer wonders what might be things behind the door...may be some secrets there which she never asked. Nevertheless, it did not bother her so much. But learning what things behind may prove an important task. Neat and clean, I love this poem. Dom

You have summarized beautifully why I chose to teach, Brooke. I believed the questions asked were as important as the answers found. I enjoyed the quest as much as my students did. Although this poem might be too sophisticated for young readers, YA readers should enjoy it. And you remind us that the Q & A goes on all our lives. Nicely put. Rod

I have to wonder if one of the questions never asked might be, "How did Potato get in there?" I thought the poem was most beautifully done, and the idea that questions too, have much to teach, is one we don't hear often. I really liked this, both for its meter and rhyme and for its thought-provoking ideas. Loved the picture too.

Adonna, thank you so much :-) The fire house is a "boy's doll house" by design, so her body is sticking out behind the facade LOL

I was wondering where my SassyCat got off to, now I know. Checking behind all the doors to make sure no treats escaped her.
We can learn a lot with just one question..
Well done, Buck

Good evening, Brooke
I just got back from the hospital. A friend from church is in there. Ivan Langille had some blockage at the outlet of his stomach. They finally performed an operation, but no closer to the reason for the blockage. I am praying that it isn't cancer. Ivan is a brick layer, still working at 75, and never has been a patient in a hospital. He does fantastic work! But he's lost 30 pounds, and just now getting to jello and puddings. He and Bertha go down to Florida every winter. Their son, Stewart, works in San Francisco.
I stopped at Luke & Leslie's on the way back home... they gave me a glass of wine!
Anyway, I loved this poem. I wish I had a six left for you.
I think great inventions come from people who asked questions. Perhaps little Sawyer or Alyssa will ask questions someday. Discovery needs questions.
"Behind the door I've never been
may be the questions never asked,
and in the asking answers found
to mysteries profound and vast."... this is just brilliant. How do you do it?
"Who knows how many doors I've missed
and what their secrets might have shown.
The fact I haven't searched them yet
does not diminish what's unknown."... it takes a special person to make important discoveries. Most of us "regular" people don't open doors, don't ask questions, don't wonder.
Love the cat's name, "Potato".
An excellent poem, Brooke. Thanks for sharing.
your fan,
Kimbob

    Thanks, Brooke. Every prayer counts!

Have a great day. I'm off to work in 30 minutes, 12-9 at the drug store today. Then, 8-5 on Saturday. Thank heavens, I get Sunday off to watch some NFL games.
They announced some huge layoffs at Moosehead yesterday. The brewery lost the Guinness account, which made up about 40% of the business. So 70 men are being laid off by June of 2015. That cuts into hires as far back as 1993! My brother, Craig, and brother-in-law, Kevin Buckley, will lose their jobs. The only thing that might shrink the number is if enough of the older fellows retire. Who knows, perhaps an incentive will be provided to retire early. And who knows, maybe the brewery will pick up a couple of new brewing contracts. So the "70" number might be a little high. Unions are weakening across the country. There are so many people looking for jobs today, businesses can pretty well take their pick. And many are college and university graduates! Times are tough. The main thing is that Moosehead doesn't go under. I don't think I'd lose my pension, but probably I would lose my health benefits. If worse came to worse, down the road, I could live in the woods... a veritable hermit! The only thing then would be... no Fanstory! Could I survive without this wonderful place?
    big hugs,
    Kimbob

I detest when businesses like that have to lay off masses of people through no fault of the workers or retirees at all - Back in my father's day you worked for the same company until the day you retired, and then they threw you a little party, gave you a parting gift, and paid you your pension and benefits until you died. It was just the deal everyone signed onto. Do your job, contribute to the productivity of the business, and then live out your golden years in security. I'm so sorry for everyone in your community impacted by this, my friend.

adewpearl,

The theme is wonderful. It makes you stop and think. Your flow was good and the rhyming very well done. Your feelings are expressed well. Your arrangement looks very nice.

There was nothing wrong that I could tell.

I look forward to seeing you again.

Love you,

Oatmeal
