Short but right on. Poetically sound to my jaundiced eye.
The rhyme makes this more palatable than some fossilized
syllabic form...in my opinion.

And so we find a sustaining life's truth folded into the playtime of the young. If only the highs and lows of those rungs were a bit more evident our choices may have been different...the 'rung' less traveled. Very nice Brooke.

Yeah! I wish I could make a poster out of this and hang it on our ward. There's too much emphasis on instant gratification and not nearly enough on solid, incremental progress that is earned through sustained, focused attention.

I really like the title of this short poem, Brooke, as it's true. In life one must learn that progress/our dreams come one step or rung at a time and in most cases we ARE on our own. An interesting proximate rhyme you used.

Thanks so much, Rod - with my accent time and climb are an exact rhyme. I love proximate rhymes, but it never occurred to me that this read as one :-) Brooke

Superman ain't swoopin' in
to help you on your climb --

What great lines! Good to remember. Ah, to be able to climb something again... anything. Kids have such a great life, and all they want to do is "grow up"... silly kids. :)

Thanks so much, Phyllis - I was just checking to see if Blaze had a new chapter, but no luck :-) Brooke

I wish I had a new one, but probably tomorrow or even tonight. With Amanda coming on the 11th WITH her parents (staying for a few days no less) all I can think of is how messy this house is and Mark's in DC for work and can't help with it till the weekend. I'm doing what I can here and there, but it's a big job. The fact I can no longer do housework is half the reason I invited Amanda to come. Helping in lieu of rent, so we both win. And I'll let her use my car after she gets her license, plus help her with math etc. to get ready for college next year. So she's hardly a "maid" but she can contribute something that I can't now. Win-win, I hope. :)

Do not listen to me and my greedy reader's complaints. LOL :-) I'm so happy you and Amanda will be able to help each other out :-) Brooke

Yup - and so many folks just keep trying to get there by bypassing some of the rungs. It doesn't often work. The lesson in this poem is such good advice - it works for all ages, but it is especially poignant for children.
What I get out of this poem is that if you want to succeed, you need to draw on your own strengths and not those of others.

Thanks so much, Rose - yep, one rung at a time seems so logical, yet so many people just don't seem to get it :-) Brooke

This is yet another interesting poem that the author has created with this piece of work. It is a long and hard struggle all right, but we don't have any other choice. We just have to grit the teeth and go for it.

One rung at a time is certainly the only effective way to scale a ladder; hopefully Sawyer reached the top safely! By the way, congratulations on your recent win. Evi
