Dear Steve,
Wonderfully expressive drawing of scene and atmosphere. I particularly like:

The sun ignite the pines to burning brands?

As usual, your execution of rhyme and metre is faultless.

Good luck, but not too good LOL

    Thanks, Reg.

Can't remember if I've reviewed yours or not.... I've been reviewing like a maniac lately so I probably have.

Parting is such sweet sorrow, and I feel the love that dwelt within, seep softly over these memories.
How poignant it is to hear the words, which hold special memories, uttered one last time.
Beautiful reflections are so sweetly expressed at the rising of a dawn now treasured by only one.
Well expressed rhyming quatrains and perfect image.
Good luck.

A perfectly executed poem in abab quatrains. Poignant memories of shared experiences with a loved one, now dead.
So sad. :) Nancy

Hi Steve, this is a wonderfully composed ABAB poem for this competition my friend, A lovely yet sad story in great rhyme with a lovely rhythm, your imagery and description are beautiful, as is the smooth flow that stems from it.

No more we'll gasp in wonder at the birth
of golden light that surges from the cloud.
Life-giving beams may kiss the new-turned earth,
but you'll forever sleep in sorrow's shroud.

OH Steve, if this doesn't win, I'll be amazed. It thouched my heart

I love this very much. So soft the shades of night in silence spill. That is beautiful and love the alliteration too. I love this line too: Life-giving beams may kiss the new-turned earth.

Kiwi, I love your poem. Your expressions are beautiful. The rhyme and rhythm are exceptional. The figures of speech are penetrating. Truly, to me, you have written a beautiful piece.
The picture that accompanied the poem is also impressive. It somehow contributed to the theme of the poem. My sincerest congratulations.

Steve,

You've written a terrific contest entry and I wouldn't be surprised it you won. Beautiful word crafting with unforced rhymes and smooth meter (as always). Great word choices throughout create images and somber moods to take the reader along with you. I would just like to mention the question marks in verse three threw me off a bit. I'm no punctuation expert but you may want to take a look at their placement. It may be just me! I am familiar with this subject matter and your words painted the picture very well. May favorite was the first verse.

Good luck in the contest though you may not need it :)

All the best,
Rodger

Rodger, thanks a lot for the fine review and the galaxy of stars. I was pretty pleased with this, but alas, I think I've read the winning poem and it's not mine and it's not yours....

Of course there is no way of knowing the committee's mind, but if a certain shipwreck poem doesn't scoop the prize I'll eat my hat.

Thanks for mentioning the question marks - there is a question and then an extension to the question - it does look a little odd, but I've decided to leave it as is.

Oh Steve, this is exquisite - it's brought tears to my eyes for the pure beauty of the imagery it evokes, let alone the poignant sadness. If this isn't the winner, I will be astounded! I'm almost out of sixes already, but this could be rated at nothing less - man, you're talented!!!

Dawn, thanks for the glowing review and the six stars.

Don't bet the house on this winning - there are a number of fine entries and I think I've seen one to beat it.
