Lovely poem. Interestingly my favorite words were in the author notes;
He "gardened" from the comfort of his hammock.
I could do this!!
I liked the stanza below very much as well.
for he knew toil and never shirked
one minute of his labor,
but time at home was set aside
for beauty to be savored.
I am gradually learning to unwind.

As usual, going through your marvellous poem, again I felt as if my own feelings are in-front of me because this was the same of my father also.

Nicely done. I can see the father walking over the yard and lying in the hammock watching the activity of the afternoon.
Rhymes consistent throughout the poem.

The working mans garden. I liked to drop a tomato or, pepper plant here and there too. They grow on their own, and the jalapenos will be coming on the vine right through the first snow. I like the language. Kenny

The lines I liked best: and violets who bowed their heads as honeybees passed over. My father was a gardener who did not do the growing, but every memory I hold dear -- my father did the sowing. Now, that line says how much you loved your dad and understood his 'hammock gardening.' Well done.

My father was an electrician, but I had no desire to follow in those footsteps. I had always wanted to become a musician, but my poetry was lacking... this is one of the many reasons why I appreciate seeing yours. As always a very good read. :)

Very nice.
A lovely portrayal of your fathers version of gardening. The quatrain structure and rhyme scheme produced so well the ease of the story line and the smooth reading tempo.
Enjoyed it.

So, I see it was from your father that you learned your love of dandelions. I wonder if he also wrote poetry. Whether he did or not, it's enough that he inspired it by teaching you (at least by example) to pay attention. This is beautiful. Love, Jeanie

Jeanie, thank you so much. He did not write poetry, but I also got my love of poetry from him because he recited it, wonderful classic poems recited by heart :-) Brooke

Brooke, I like your poem. It is more or less a tribute to your father who took good care of his garden. There are plenty of beautiful expressions there that I felt outstanding.
I mean the images presented. Varied and keen. I like best the last stanza: "My father was a gardener who did not do the growing but every memory I hold dear--my father did the sowing." Congratulations Dom

I like your father already. Wonderful quatrain that immortalizes his character and his love. Now I know from where comes your love for dandelions. Wonderful ending.
