I love looking at gardens. Have one myself. Good poem.
MY FATHER SPENT HIS SATURDAYS
PRESIDING O'ER HIS GARDEN
THOUGH NEVER LIFTING RAKE NOR HOE
NOR NEEDING NATURE'S PARDON

Now I know why you so love dandelions. What a lovely poem this is, Brooke as you provide a special memory of your dad. As always your rhyme is perfect, and your poem is a joy to read.

Sweet, it is a kind tribute to your father, but also a tribute to your love of dandelions. There is nothing like a patch of wildflowers. I enjoyed the poem.... :-) Carolyn

Spectacular poem about your father and his easygoing way/s, his love of nature, and his high level of character. Thanks for sharing this. We need more poems very much like this. Poems that show people, like your father, who are reliable and able to truly appreciate Nature.

This is a nice tribute to your father. One thing I like about your poems is that they are long enough to strongly make their case, but short enough so that there are no wasted words.

When I was still working I resented having to cut the lawn more often than once a week. Now that I'm retired I cut it about every four days. And I religiously treat it for broadleaf weeds, vines, and unfavorable grasses. How different we all are.

Gerald, thank you so much :-) Yep, except for the occasional story poem, I stay away from long poems. Don't like to read them either. Brooke

Such a beautiful poem of loving memories of your father, I hated when my dad cut the beautiful wild flowers and clovers. I enjoyed the natural garden.

I ...What a loveing tribute to your Dad. Every line speeks of respect and love. I always wanted my Pa to work in the garden, like the other Dads. Instead he worked often.
OH well, I get to savour this poem and have a dad by osmosis:-)

Gorgeous photo that complements this poem about how your father tended to his very well- in his own special way. Great quatrains.

Hi Brooke,

I couldn't agree more with your father. I wish my husband would stop mowing the lawn so I could enjoy wildflowers. Several years ago, a violet wildflower found it's way to my pot on the deck. It flourished through the entire summer and gave me so much pleasure.

I just read your poem again, looking for a favorite line or stanza. I couldn't find one because your entire poem is exquisite. What a wonderful way to start this day.

Hugs,
Lou

Sweet ending; held back really well:
but every memory I hold dear --
my father did the sowing. ...the garden was almost the excuse to say how your fathered grew memories worth having in your life.
Love the hold cadence here as you paint this awesome picture of a father who let nature grow its own garden while he watched and appreciated its value.
Excellent advice about nurturing beauty and appreciating it in the moment.
