Father was a gardener
he new words of gold
he knew about the water
he knew about seeds sown
Father was a gardener
Though he was never told
Father had a daughter...
and this message will never grow old ...

My dad was and is and while there's life in him will be a gardener, and that's what caught my attention with this piece. But of course, this takes a different turn from the obvious meaning of gardener, a very lovely, vividly descriptive, and touching turn as a matter of fact. A beautiful ending to this piece. The last stanza alone deserves a 6, though the build up to it is wonderful as well. Expresses such a wonderful and loving relationship with children and with life.

Brooke, what a wonderful job on this rhyming quatrain
poem. That sounds like the kind of gardener I'd like
to be. I love flowers, but usually just enjoy everyone
else's. This rhymes and flows well. What a lovely
picture you found to showcase your poem.

What a well-written, respectful ode to your father. To keep the neighbors from fussing, I pay a lawn service to come and kill all those pretty little dandelions and small, lavender flowers that would normally fill my yard. I tell you--your father had the right idea.

Your author notes are absolutely terrific. I enjoyed seeing how you viewed the weeds as simply wild and free flowers.
Now, if only my home owners association could be convinced I felt the same way - I'd be okay and would be able to rest lots more.
Very sweet tribute to your dad and it comes across that you appreciated and loved him very much. Jean

Your dad sounds like a gardener after my own heart. We have a little plot where we can plant and years ago, I just bought a few packets of wildflower seeds, scattered them, and let nature take it's course. Sometimes, what nature gifts us without help from our hands, is the most beautiful.

Aha! So THAT's where you get your love of dandelions. How sweet, and I can't blame you. I'm glad your dad had a hammock too. Nothing beats a hammock for enjoying the outdoors without hiking thru it. We had a hammock for many years till we lost the tree that held one end. I loved that thing. :)

We have a field near us, and it is full to overflowing of the most beautiful wild flowers. Nature surely does give us all a treat for free. I think I would have liked your father, Brooke, he sounds like my kind of dad. This is a lovely poem, and I agree wholeheartedly with the type of gardening your father did! :) Sandra xsx

A new way of looking at things - even a life message can be found here. Glad you mentioned the buttercups :) now I won't resent them so much. I do find them beautiful and do love their name as well - so maybe I can sit back and simply enjoy God's bounty - Loren
