What a wonderful tribute to your hardworking dad.

I thought the last four lines..

My father was a gardener
who did not do the growing,
but every memory I hold dear --
my father did the sowing.

Sum-up so well, your affection and appreciation of him.

So touching...

kind regards

trimple

Hi Brooke,

Such a loving tribute to your dad in this poem, as well as in your notes.

My dad had a green thumb. I did not inherit that gene. No ma'am! My thumb is as black as they come. Thankfully, desert landscaping is a plus for me! LOL

We have the most beautiful Mexican Bird of Paradise bush in our front yard. I trim it back in the fall. When it blooms in spring I let it go all summer. The blooms are gorgeous. I enjoy, and no pruning!! Yeah!

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'.... Jax (*>*)

Hi Brooke
Your father was a wise man. So many of us work our butts off, and then come home and work some more. They don't say hello to the dog that's been waiting for them patiently all day, or to their wives, or children. But your father chose to relax and enjoy all of God's gifts. I would take the hammock, colourful weeds, and my beautiful family any day over boring chores that only keep up with the neighbours.
"My father was a gardener
who did not do the growing,
but every memory I hold dear --
my father did the sowing." ... it's plain to see that your father's garden included his family, and that you had great respect for him.
Beautiful poem!
your fan,
Kimbob

Another Six! You're on a tear. Beautifully composed, like a well laid out garden plot. The last pair of couplets is a killer stanza, nailing down the whole point of the piece:
"My father was a gardener
who did not do the growing,
but every memory I hold dear --
my father did the sowing."

A wonderful nature poem written in rhyming quatrains, about a father who sow the flower plants in a garden. Good choice of words which are nicely presented. The picture perfectly compliments the poem.

Well... I can hardly tell you how much I love this piece, Brooke! Reminds me of my own father - although he was a transplanted farmer from Saskatchewan and actually did garden (we had the biggest, most varied and plentiful vegetable garden in the neighbourhood) he maintained a fondness for those small gifts of nature's planting in the the lawn... He always told me that there were no 'weeds'.. only plants for which most people had not discovered the true value and beauty of.

Lovely!

I love this - working hard and then taking time to just sit back and enjoy nature. My dad's the opposite. LOL Enjoyed this piece very much. :)

A self-kept lawn is the best kind. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read. There is good imagery.

I can tell you this is a very easy six star piece of poetry for me. I was completely overwhelmed with the love and respect that poured across the screen. I even stood up from my chair and clapped, your silent standing ovation. I assure you this much, you are a great teller of fact and story and I appreciated this more than anything. You have yourself an outstanding day and God Bless.
