This was not only a neat stand-alone chapter, but you brought everything together for a satisfying ending.
Inspiring to have Herb Jr. in touch with his dad, and although Jr. has no talent at all for auto repair, he has his departed dad showing him what to do.
I like the fact that "In Four Bits, not all things can be explained."
Damn right.

I enjoyed your rendition of the mysterious " Herb Granger jnr," It still remains a little " mysterious " it was a long journey to identifying and confirming Herb was who he says he was, is Herb senior inhabiting the body of his son? hence the institutionalising of Herb jnr. I guess we'll never know! Well done, well written I enjoyed it! Blessings, Roy.

It was a brilliant ending, Lee. It was the only way it could end. Now we know that Herb Junior is Herb Junior, and he is now Jimmy's new partner, I think you given yourself a way back into Four-Bits for more wonderful carrying ons. I have read some of your back Four-Bit stories, but look forward to any I've missed. I really liked these characters! Excellent!! (of course!) :) Sandra xsx

I liked it, and I likened it somewhat to Moses and the Pharaoh. A clever ending, not complicated, just a slight stretch of the imagination. Enjoyable reading all the way. Kenny

Good stuff as always, hw. Very realistic dialogue. Hopefully, I can be of some help with some small spacing matters:

I let Junior crash at my place last night. -- Move back one spot.

"For now. But my father knows everything, and he's going to teach me." -- Check paragraph spacing here.

"Your father, if he even was your father, has been dead for forty years." -- Move back one spot.

You've explained this Four-Bits conundrum as well as anyone other than Hazel Wedman could have - and she's visiting with Herb Sr. in person at the moment.

echolocating with crunchy snack food to find the... - this is not a pretty image you've stuck in my head, sir. Squish, squish...

four cylinders short of a V-8 - Perfect mechanicese.

A great ending to a wonderful story, Lee. And a beautiful addition to your Four-Bits collection.

Hey! I still want to hear about The Hyphen Referendum.
Who's with me?

:) Nancy

Gosh, this entire story was wonderful, hw. I love these guys so much. The ending sucked, though. Not the ending, just that it ended. I sure want to know how Herb's mission continues with Jumior. Love these ...

Jimmy shot him a look that had grenade-lob written all over it. My mom had that look!

try aiming by echolocation while eating crunchy snack foods. LMAO! That is absolutely hilarious, hw.

Dion and the Belmonts gumming tapioca and scratching their nethers!" LMAO is Mr. DiMucci still alive? I wanted to be a Wanderer like him.

Loved this story so much and all the different aspects of your unique storytelling.
Smiles,
Indy : )

Oh, Indy thanks for this special review. I think I've renewed my connection to Four-Bits, so more stories might be forthcoming.
It might be fun to look in on Jimmy and Junior as they deal with the Herb Sr's spirit. And then there's Smitty.
Thank you, Indy. So much appreciated. Peace, Lee

Thanks for taking me along for Junior's ride, and introducing me to your crazy group of entertaining characters. It was also fun to hear the names Dion and the Belmonts, as they could have given Kenny Rogers a few tips about "Ruby." Great job. :-)
