This is funny. I loved it. I loved it even more when I read in your notes that it really happened. You must have been a real brat when you were a kid. It does give you a lot of things to write about, though.

This would freak me out as well, but to pick the spider up and hang on to it is beyond me.
Best wishes in the contest. You must have been a eek kid to have around. I told my boys, that if they ever brought a snake into the house, that would be the end of me. They never brought one in. So I'm still around.

I feel for your poor mother. Hopefully, she got used to your craziness and the creepy crawlers didn't frighten her as much. Just born that way, huh? I that has to be the best explanation. In interesting slice of life story. Well told.

Well, hating spiders myself and having a daughter and grand-daughter who are absolutely terrified of them I can relate to this story well. Except I would never have bought Creepy Crawlers for you in the first place.Well told Dean, and good luck in the contest, and did your mother forgive you for the next mornings treat in her cereals (ha ha).

Dean, this is a hilarious story. I love the way you describe your mother's reaction to the 'real' spider. OMG, I got the shudders just contemplating it because I've seen close-ups of wolf spiders, and they are the definition of horror for me. This is a great contest entry, which I bet will be the winner. Your poor mother! It must have been a nightmare for her; a fear of bugs and the like while raising several boys.
This was a fun read! I caught myself reminiscing back to my own childhood several times with a smile on my face.

What on earth had you gotten into to get so many creepy things in your diapers? Unless, of course, she was just as morbid in her sense of humour when talking to little children.
