You certainly describe all of the horrors of human suffering well in this well constructed free verse. The imagery used is powerful and evokes strong emotions. Nicely done and I thank you so much for sharing this with me.

You did an excellent job on writing about human suffering. The picture is so dramatic. You have certainly given us many descriptive examples of human suffering, with a very deep and strong message. This is certainly very thought-provoking.
Great job Livelylinda!

Powerful, true and happening more and more. This was good poem with a message that people don't always want to see. I think people are wising up to the harsh realties of the times and maybe just enough to something about all the violence.

Livelylinda,

I can certainly see why this work was the winner. It encompasses much of the human condition which causes such suffering. Certainly a purpose in poetry is to arouse, to awake, to shock one into life. To bring a store house of real or even imagined images which allows the reader to step from their circle of influence and touch the realm of another facet of life through a poet's words.
Well done... jls

This is a very well thought out poem, Touches so many areas of human suffering. The free style form allows the poet to exercise his liberty for clear expression of this theme. Very well done.

How true... the world is filled with suffering on both a global and personal scale, and when one suffers, so does his/her family, and the consequences do spread. I'm sure happiness is just as contagious, that the "mood" of a family or a nation can change from sad to hopeful, but the process is slow even after it's reversed, and with the current global worries, it's hard not to relate that fear to every day life.

The message is crystal clear. I love the black ground and the white letters. the photo is outstanding. The choice of words, the structure, and the examples expressed are spot on. There is too much suffering in this world. We need to start a campaign for building love and understanding, and decreasing violence and war. The model of life children are being exposed to is horrific. Thanks

Congratulations on winning the Human suffering poetry contest. This is very powerful. It makes us think about all the forms of suffering there are in the world. You show the cause-effect relationships. The story of the grandmother who doesn't receive any attention from her family is touching. When she dies alone, the suffer guilt feelings. When a soldier dies in combat, his bereaved family suffers. This flows very well and really comes together. judi

Generally, this is a good poem and I get the gist of your poem, that we are linked by suffering, a domino effect ( look at the world- it is not that hard to see). It is just that it does read a bit more like a list, no sense of the pain like your hunger poem (which was superb). The opening, the football team, does not stack up with the rest, particularly since there is currently a movie out about a football team that lost after a record losing streak. I am not saying it is a bad poem, just that I have seen better by you.

ravenblack: I wasn't writing this one from the heart so much as commenting to the suffering around the globe and how when one suffers, it affects other people who suffer, too. It was more like a documentary than a heart-strings puller. I could certainly write it from a feelings level. Maybe I'll try a rewrite. One or two other reviewers have also mentioned this. I'll think on that. Linda

Congrats on the win. This is a great free verse poem about how people are affected by the pain in this world. Very vivid imagery in your poem as well as the picture.
