Good poem. I thought it was going to be on domestic violence. But it includes any and all types of suffering.

Then I was wondering how, with all the variety you are exploring, there could be any one solution.

The key, I think, and you seem to suggest, is that "One person begins chain of events."

I personally subscribe to the Christian solution ... but as I pointed out with your "key" line, each person must begin his own chain of events where he is now.

It's first admission, then responsibility, then action to change.

Boy you hit the nail right on the head with this one. But just as suffering creates a domino effect...so do acts of kindness and cheerfulness!

You certainly covered the bases but I'm sure there are many more examples we could think up if we tried. Sometimes I believe this is hell and we have to keep coming back till we get it right. LOL Good job. Good luck with the prompt. Nancy

Greetings author,

This is an excellent poem for the contest prompt. You hit the nail on the head with this piece. Suffering comes in all shapes and sizes. We do not know the long term effects or how it infringes on others. And your conclusion is noteworthy. Turn to the One who will end all human suffering once and for all. I like that thought. ;) Chrisfiore

Yes, psychologists and social workers go through this a lot - they have to listen. But not only. Each one of us goes through this at one point or the other. The spectrum of human suffering is very wide. Awesome picture to accompany your work. You are right - people need to tell us about their pain, they need to unload - otherwise the pain will kill them.

You describe so many variations of human suffering:

war
kills soldiers and civilians
destroys homes, businesses, crops,
lives and countries
someone's daddy doesn't return home
everyone suffers

Great work.

This poem took my breath away with its universal truths. As an invidual, we feel so helpless and that we can't make a difference to stop the madness of human suffering, so we can only start with ourselves and our families and build love and healthy connections that may someday make a difference. Great job.

This is very well written for this contest. Every human being has some suffering of some kind. Going to the Lord is always the best way to cope with it. Good picture to go with it. Miss Sally

Not a very uplifting poem or picture, but I guess that's the point.

The suggested ending is well thought out.

Thank you.

I think you could have left off the football game from this, as the rest of what you have written about here is so very serious. Losing a football game is nothing in comparison to everything else you have written about here.

As for the quality of writing in this poem, it was excellent. I enjoyed reading and writing this response for it... John

Thanks for reading. There is escalation of serious suffering beginning with listening to others and football games and then into the more serious. That was the plan.
