This poem is full of deep emotion and you do a good job of letting the reader feel that emotion with your good word usage. The story is sad, that anyone would feel so helpless that they would take their own life. Thank you for sharing.

You expressed well in poetry how I felt those 12 years ago as I watched the happening of that brilliant day in September and was away from home. Why? oh Why? was there cruel people that day who would do such a thing. You captured the emotions of that day well. Good luck in the contest.

The picture seems to be a picture of a city colored in blood and sadness. The poem is a vivid and emotional memory of 9/11. All the people jumping from the burning buildings.
It is a day all should always mourn. It changed the lives of the families along with those of all Americans.

I can't imagine a more apt description of grief. I still remember so well the terrible feeling that came with the realization that our country was being attacked by madmen and that thousands of innocent people died. I truly loved how you brought out the flag picture in these lines...
"the dust settles
war-like images of wreckage
but one flag still remained
one small tree stood alone
no surrender"
I remember how all the neighborhoods suddenly blossomed with American flags and it seemed like exactly that to me... there will be NO surrender! We refuse to be terrorized or defeated. Thank you for this important reminder. I wish you much luck in the contest.

This poem appropriately pays tribute to the loss of innocence and trust due to misguided hate. We will never be the same just as we never are when such mindless horror strikes. The rhyming pattern is most interesting and lends itself to the theme.

An amazing picture to accompany this poem of the horrific day 13 years ago. You did capture the feelings of grief that your nation experienced. Well done.

I like how you describe the rescue workers here and I like frief described as an octopus, creative and a very sharp emotional image. Your words bring forth that sad day and its aftermath.
