I loved this! I especially liked how you used 'garland' in her hair. What an expressive way to say it!
You continue to amaze me, Brooke!

I can still remember what I was doing that day when we heard, guess it will be remembered as will JFK's death. What a beautiful, complex poem. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much, Bina, for generous response to this poem. Yep, I can remember that morning in far far greater detail than I remember most days. I can remember people's exact words to me, like the teacher who told me I could watch the TV in his room during my break period after he told me of the first crash. I remember which desk I was sitting at when I watched the second crash live... Brooke

Oh my goodness Brooke your poetry appears to be positively outstanding recently. I don't know if you are experiencing something wonderful in your life right now, but something is pushing the boundaries of what it is to write so eloquently.

Like your autumnal leaves, I am blown away...

much love

tracey:)

Loved the rhyming scheme and rhythm
Excellent enjambment
Nice alliteration
Good commentary on The deathly effect of Autumn. or a moment I thought your were metaphorically referring to the terrorist act but then by your author's notes I don't think you were

Everyone assumes that the beach is the best n the summer, but I gotta tell you, the fall is the most beautiful time of year here. The water is warm, the grasses turn an amazing golden color and the pace is slower. It is when Autumn here, at least, is when she shines. Great poem.

Gretchen, thank you so much :-) I love that brief period in fall when everything is so beautiful before all the leaves just turn brown and ugly. :-) Brooke

I remember well how beautiful a day that day when terror struck and we looked on disbelief. Your poem is symbolic in its expression of the beauty of autumn into the stark onset of winter; a beautiful autumn day passing into one of the darkest moments in history.

This is a sombre tribute clothed in the metaphorical autum's death frock. You remember 9-11, and connect it to the moments when the beauty of the day gives over to death by terrorism. I can't remember the style of poetry, but it's reeling lines felt like a dirge or death knell as I read. Deceptively beautiful, while obviously pain-filled.

This is a thought provoking poem about time elapsing and the perfectness of a moment. Autumn is a very pretty time but it is a time of what seems like death. As all the death that on Sept. 11, 2001 that started on a perfect day.

I see that the 3d lines are alterd grammatically so the poem flows.

It is a beautiful picture.

Keep writing

Joan

The cycling of lines was really interesting, i've never seen that before. Is there a name for that kind of poem structure or is it something you've come up with independantly? If so- kudos to you! There were a few lines that tripped me up but over all I think it was very good :)
