I haven't seen an Octogram in awhile. So refreshing and a perfect topic for this time of year. I see that the spiders in my garden are starting to string their webs to catch the bees and bugs that they will fatten up on before they make their wooly spider balls.
Loved the poem, Brooke - and loved the picture of Sawyer - His expression looks like he just might have spotted one of those spiders.

Hi Brooke,
I love your seamstress spider and I also love how you can write about a subject that's gruesome with such flair and whimsy. Another fun read.
Hugs,
Lou

I have missed your clever poetry during my "time-out."
This is such a wonderful subject choice, and in reading, I can feel the magic of the words just as children do.
A perfect octogram complete with strict adherence to rhyme scheme and iambic meter.
I am fascinated by the sheer magnitude of the technique used by these exceptionally clever weavers.
Sawyer has such a wonderful realm to explore and satisfy his curiosity.
I only have a virtual six.

Yes, indeed, the world is an amazing place and children have a wonderland of unusual and wonderful things to see and do. The spider's web is one of the most amazing natural wonders we can see - so amazing for catching dinner. Especially beautiful after rain drops catch like diamonds. Well done nana.

Kay, thank you, my friend :-) I'm going to be on pins and needles all day today until Miranda calls to let me know how Sawyer's first day of school went. Brooke

One of the things I love reading your poems is Sawyer. You never run out of ideas to compliment his cutest photographs. Because of your poem, I've learned to appreciate even the littlest creatures we have around too. c", Mae

Yes, indeed, many of the beauties we see about us are really there for more practical reasons.
The octogram form works well for this view/opposing view structure.

You know Brooke, I actually know a couple of women that fit - exactly - into your poem.
Very visual and the look on Sawyer's face is that of "Please, don't let the seamstress near me."
Quite fun. Jean

Hi Brooke: I'm so delighted not to have to make excuses about my lack of six stars as this one again deserves it! I loved the photo and the fine writing as well as the lesson in the author notes. Many thanks for all the above! Vance

These are beautifully written explanations of brutal facts of nature. They will certainly help Sawyer to bettert understand some of his observations. Great job. I enjoyed the read. Bob

Hello, Dear Friend
I loved this poem! Your form is spot-less and the flow of the read is as Venetian silk flows in the Canale Grande's gentle breeze. I admire the strong metaphor of the spider and web in the first stanza justapositioned with the seamstress in the second. Perfect!
I'm so sorry I've missed so many of your posts. I've just not had the time to be active. So glad I found this one this evening!

Thank you so much, Ray, for the lovely stars. I hope you've had pleasant reasons for being so busy :-) Brooke

I wish so. My muse has fled with some Italian hunk and is holed up in Cinque Terra, thus my writing has seriously floundered. Fragments is all I can pen these last months. :( But I'm sure the sun will soon rise as August's heat gives way to Fall's sweet cooling breath. -rr
-
You tell Fall I say it had better do some fancy breathing in your direction because I would really like to read some poetry from you :-)

Thank you, dear friend!
