Dear Brooke,

For the grandson can also shine, but much closer than the actual sun. When eyes light up and sparkle so it brings the sunbeam right on home.

Warm regards,

Winslow

What a delightful poem, thank you for sharing. His smile is as bright as a beaming sun! School! It does not seem possible, a whole new world awaits him!

Hi Brooke
This is a lovely poem that made me think of so many things. For instance, the song "Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam":
http://youtu.be/Iy3J894LcxE
"1. Jesus wants me for a sunbeam
To shine for him each day;
In ev'ry way try to please him,
At home, at school, at play.

Chorus:
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I'll be a sunbeam for him.

2. Jesus wants me to be loving
And kind to all I see,
Showing how pleasant and happy
His little one can be.

Chorus:
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I'll be a sunbeam for him."
Words: Nellie Talbot
Music: Edwin O. Excell, 1851-1921

Our next meeting of the Saint John Astronomy Club is tomorrow night at Lily Lake. They have so many interesting discussions. One month, June MacDonald gave an interesting talk on the Sun...all those nuclear bombs, what a violent place!
The sun isn't just a single nuclear explosion. But rather, it's a series of them. At the sun's core, hydrogen is being turned into helium. Just like in a nuclear bomb, massive amounts of energy are being released. However, all that energy is self-contained due to the sun's mass and gravitational pull. The sun is really huge compared to the planets in our little solar system.
After energy is produced in the sun's core, it takes 100,000 years to reach the surface. And once it's actually in space, it only takes that energy about eight minutes to travel the 93-million miles to Earth. We are just far enough away so we aren't burnt to a crisp. Any further from the Sun, and we'd be frozen solid. So sunbeams are our friends.
I like the personification of the Sun in this line,
"When Sun was juggling sunbeams"
Great teacher too,
"a million miles times ninety three
(if one is splitting hairs)
for that's our distance from the sun
(if anybody cares)."

Your last stanza made me think of the same light you see bursting from little Sawyer's eyes when I catch Alyssa looking at me. Nice comparison to the brilliance of the Sun. Hard to look away, we are drawn to the light... like moths.

Nicely penned!
your ardent fan,
Kimbob

School already, he's growing up to fast. Do you think you will make enough poems before he graduates? I hope not, because you would then need other incentives. Great work as usual!!

Gargantuan, thank you so much :-) Hey, if he gets too old for kiddie poems, then I can write poems about all the trials and tribulations of his being a teen, and then I can write about his kids some day. LOL :-) Brooke

A wonderful reflection of a child's wonder at the things we take for granted! being able to capture a child's joy in grown up words is a rare talent and should be applauded!

Brooke: I like your images of the sunbeans being in Sawyer's eyes when he smiles. I think this is so true of children. His Son light is shining bright! Christ is in Sawyer and he shines his love for you. Big hugs from the Son! Well written. Maybe, this can be a children's book.
Note,,,, I am getting better at commas with your help!
Thank you.

Brooke, this is such a lovely and magical write that is fanciful and childlike in presentation, but carries with it a deeply moving emotion. Amazing that he is growing so fast. It has been fun to see you chronicle his steps in poetry. Great meter and rhyme. :0 GracieAnn

For some reason, this makes me think of Emily Dickenson.
(except for the last two lines--I don't think she ever wrote love poetry)I love the idea that we all might be a sunbeam in someone's life.

Surely "it's hard to hide a sunbeam, for they are just too bright." This is in appreciation of one of the wonders of mother nature, far up in the distance, we clearly feel the sunbeams as if just some feet from us. Well, happy school life to Sawyer :)
