As for your author notes - they start them so young these days, wow. A friend's granddaughter started too and she is 2 1/2. My twin grandson's just turned 4 and this is their 1st year of preschool. They'll still have 2 years of preschool before kindergarten.
As for the poem, it was perfect and beautiful:)

They will be 6 when they start. They could go at 5 but they will be a young 5 so I think my daughter will keep the back a year.

Loved it. I bet your daughter reads poetry to him every day! He'll probably be heads and tails above the other kids. I read to my Harrison daily and he was reading/writing when he entered Kindergarten.
