I love the whimsical nature of this and the educational aspect tossed in. I bet kids would remember that important little fact and there is no way they would from a boring school class. Then you always find a way to make it personal and touching. A perfect formula. mikey

The image of the sunbeam is clear and is almost a character in this poem. I like how you tell the reader the exact distance from the sun. This is a poem with a smooth flow of lines that makes the reader smile.

Love this charming and whimsical poem! (I got a chuckle out of splitting hairs about how far away the sun is.) And what a beautiful portrait of Sawyer! I have an idea he will teach them a few things at school. Love, Jeanie

Brooke: a beautiful poem connecting Sawyer to a sunbeam; and that is fact! He is a shower of sunshine. I was able to visit my great-grandson this past weekend. He will be three in November. He knows all his colors (without any prompting), can count to 20, can recite the alphabet and sing the alphabet song. His conversations sound so adult. Aren't they amazing? Enjoyed this poem very much. Linda

Sunbeam magic for sure, and I'm sure, I can see sunshine reflected in his most engaging smile.
Once again these perfect quatrains tell a magical story to delight both young and old alike.
What a great way to introduce children to the concept of space.
A virtual six.

Cute ending with the reference to 'your smile'. I like this wisdom that Sawyer offer about all things solar. No-one can question his science:a million miles times ninety three, and no-one can question his observations which describe just how the sun goes about its work and the value of these sunbeams:And though it came some distance,
its brightness didn't fade --
it showed with all the brilliance
of where the sun still played.
Lovely verse with appealing ideas underpinning the child's view.

Hi Brooke :)
This is such a sweet poem - I really enjoyed the rhythm of it and the message is just gorgeous. I loved the splitting hairs part! 'Stop splitting hairs' was one of my mum's most said phrases when my brothers and I were squabbling - it's stuck with me and I use it a lot!
I adore that you personified the sun and had him or her juggling sunbeams! Just a really fun and lovely poem - very enjoyable :)
Kindest regards as always, Debra x

Brooke:
I cannot believe Sawyer is starting school already. Is it a 3-year-old or 4-year-old program? Alexis started kindergarten last week after a very impressive pre-school year. Her biggest issue is remaining in her seat and not trying to teach the class for her teacher - LOL!
love,
jan

Jan, he's 28 months old, so it's the youngest class the school has - they start them young in their neck of the woods. When Miranda went to orientation a few days ago, she found out that he's the only one in his class who is potty trained. LOL Thanks so much for your review. Tell Alexis that the poor teacher will lose her job and not be able to pay her bills if she doesn't allow her to teach. LOL :-) Brooke

Such a wonderful tale of love and fantasy. I just imagine a escaping sunbeam and landing in Sawyer's eyes. Beautiful. Such an inspiration...
