What a great story, Irish. It shows the love and respect that existed between the father and son, even after the old man started to forget. The tone is tender, sensitive, replete with love. The ultimate sign of a successful life is to have people love you, right up to the end.

This is such a sad but also heart warming story. Heart warming because of the relationship between the father and son.
In June, my granddad died after having had dementia for around 5 years, he was in a nursing home. Your character Robert Reilly Snr reminded me a lot of my Granddad - at least how he was a year or so ago before the dementia totally robbed us of him.
Your story is very well written. Each character; Robert Snr, Robert, the nurse and also the voice of Robert Snr in his letter of 2005 came across very well - They were real characters not just names in relation to the story.
The twist of the letter actually being written by Robert Snr at the end was clever.
Great use of dialogue, effective scene setting and good pace of story made for an enjoyable read. You have a very engaging writing style.
