Dean, Your poetic format and artwork compliment each other. When I was in Hawaii, I learned that the mongoose were brought to the island to kill the snakes that had slithered over to the island on fright barrages, many many years ago. Soon the island was overrun with mongoose. Good piece of work. Carole

Well, I'll be. Thanks, Carole, that's very interesting. Much the same thing has happened here in the part of Ohio where I live. Timber wolves were brought in to help control the coyote population, now guess what? The wolf population is getting out of hand. I don't know about you but I'd rather deal with coyotes than wolves any day of the week!
Thanks for sharing that info, and for you kind and thoughtful review. :)

Dean, Ha! Neither one is my pleasure!! I live in Michigan and a friend in Troy, put her little dog out in the yard for a minute or two and a coyote attacked it. Thanks so much for the great reply. Smiles. Carole

Our three little dogs are house dogs for that very reason, Carole. Every night, without fail, you can hear the coyotes howling, yapping and calling to each other just outside our back door, not more than 100 yards away. It makes for some great inspiration for my writing, but no way am I allowing my doggies outside without me!

A look into the world of animals. Sometimes it is through the things we see on TV that inspires us to write about. This was an enjoyable read and educational as well. Great descriptions, rhymes, and flow. Excellent artwork as well. Thanks for sharing Dean.

I'll let the mongoose enjoy his dinner and not be jealous at all. Your author's notes were interesting.. Excellent job of putting the battle into a poem, Buck

Hi, Dean.
If I had to work this hard and precariously for dinner, I think I'd become a vegetarian. Luckily, I buy my snakes dead, skinned pre-packed and ready to eat. Yummy! ;-)
Great dialogue between the two, in this dramatic poem of engagement.
No wish to patronise, but your meter has improved incredibly and makes, at least for me, a much smoother read, though the entertainment has always been in your words.
Poor little serpent eggs - oh well, I guess they can always eat each other. ;-)
Excellent!
Best wishes, Ray.

Ha ha, yes, they probably could eat one another, Rayman. I'm sure if the hatchlings were to get hungry enough they'd probably try to!
I owe much of what I've learned about meter through your patience and constant pushing of me to try and do better at it, and I thank you for that, my friend. I'll get there...one of these days, LOL.
Thanks for the thoughtful review, Ray. I appreciate it, as always. :)

Love it! I watch a lot of animal shows too. And this poem tells a simple nature story that not many would know of.
One thing though:
"You think you'll make a meal of me," the slinky serpent asks?
the question mark should be at the end of the speech, not the end of the line
always write,

Ouch ! Not only can I hear the deadly hiss but i can 'feel' the sheer fear as 'his teeth tore thrice' - so evocative both aurally and visually

Thanks for your Animal Planet documentary poem. I enjoyed reading the poem and learning something at the same time. Nice change from all the kissy-kiss, love me, broke my heart poems that seem to overwhelm FS. Enjoyed it very much.
