Yes, this is definitely a six! Sorry I am too late for the contest! I see that you received a very decent 5 votes, and there is a two-way tie for first, each having 7 votes.
In my humble opinion, your little story is by far, the best entry. The sibling rivalry, the unadulterated joy of the little girl riding the mechanical pony(Ah, for those innocent days!), and her astounding imagination, that brought back so many memories that had lain dormant for a half-century!(Whoops, I'm only 39!)
You have retained much of your childhood, and I, for one, am so glad you never grew up all the way!
(Neither did I)
Super duper!

Hello irish! What an awesome review, rating, and your comments are the best. I sure loved getting a chance to ride that plastic pony. For ten cents and a minute, I was able to get lost in the Wild West and get rid of those nasty bad guys. While in the grocery store, I was probably the best behaved girlie on the planet. You're right, and I hope we both never get too old to be a kid.
    Thanks for reading.

    Sassy :-)

I loved this a sweet, small slice of life piece. I thought you did a brilliant job with the narration. The voice sounds like a young tomboy, eager to ride!

A true story. Is that you in the picture. Sibling rivalry, horse riding chivalry, and it's all true! You know no one writes from a child's view point like you. When I saw this I immediately liked and do like it from beginning to happy end or happy rump, whichever.

Biographical. That's interesting. I remember playing cowboys and Indians eons ago. A great story for that title. What you did best was capture the age and personality of the child through language and actions. A fun read.

Good fun, Karyn. Enjoyed this little romp. Perfect fit with that picture, too. It felt like you went back to your childhood here, which was cool.

I enjoyed this story. I was cheering for the last one to ride that pony...great that your mom didn't run out of pennies. i was thinking that would be the end. But I am happy, you got the ride!

Wow, what a great look back in time. My brother and I drove my mother nuts asking for rides on the one that sat outside Woolworth's for years. Good story, it's comeplete in the two hundred word limit and it's really fun piece. good luck with the contest.

What a cute little story that takes us all back to the days of our weekly trips to the grocery or dime store, to ride the mechanical horse and pretend. Great job, and thanks for the sweet moments. :-)
