This one should make Sawyer smile and even help him learn to count a little. An excellent entry for the contest and I hope it does well, Buck

Delightful read - this rhymes really well and think it would be a very sweet thing for a teacher to read to their younger wards. Can't you see the teacher - inflections in her voice - talking about how the wizards built the lawn?

As always Brooke, quite nice. Jean

What a very well done poem for chldren, done with alluring words and muses of the children. Sure, i f where worms were once crowded is now full of golden dandelions, them they must have been made by wizards ::). Love this work with strings of alliterations.

I can see this as a book of 18 pages masterfully filled w/pictures on glossy paper dividing 1/2 of each stanza on the page; children would love it, I know because I did & I pictured it in my head as I read this poem that rhymed wonderfully & rolled & plopped & bobbed along without spelling or grammatical errors. I even learned to count to eight with other numbers too, hundreds, thousands, millions, more. The yellow dandies did fill my view as Monet's yellow fields did too.

Impeccable rhythm bouncing along here Brooke, particularly suited to the prompt. And, of course, I can just hear and see little guys enjoying this one tremendously!

Another good read 'em to sleep poem. I like the imagery and
the rhymes, and admire the youthful attitude. Another example of excellent craftsmanship.

Hi Brooke
I need a towel! Another terrific poem, so fun to read. Kids would love it, I know. You take us through a rainstorm, from those first fat drops to a downpour to complete silence. I can picture the brown puddles I used to jump in with my rubber boots and those long fat night-crawlers on the pavement.
Your poem could teach kids to count to eight.
Lots of good alliteration, for instance
"drop by drop"
"slant, not straight"
"plops start pounding"
"round and round"
I like the inner rhymes,
"wiggling, squiggling"
and consonance,
"plops aplenty"

You've written the poem as though you were a child, mentioning Grandpa & Grandma. I like that, and so would any child.
As I read the poem, I think of songs about rain... BJ Thomas & "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head",
http://youtu.be/t30cX6OGO0U
Gordon Lightfoot's "Early Mornin' Rain",
http://youtu.be/1pqttl9aWm0
and The Cascades singing "Rhythm of the Falling Rain"
http://youtu.be/lC2Fu20X_KY

As you can tell, I love the rain...especially when I'm walking in the woods. God is cleaning the earth like only He can. And we both know this earth can use a lot of cleaning.

Nicely penned! Thanks for sharing.
your fan,
Kimbob

Oh my goodness, you sure did manage to capture the feeling of a heavy rainfall, and the sweet stillness when it stops - I loved this kid's poem - an absolute charmer!

Ah Brooke, This is perfect for the contest. On my week with Gracie we sang so many songs and I found my self singing your poem. Now anytime I read anything with a great rhythm I want to sing it. Your poem passed the Gracie test! LOL Best of luck to you, Shirley
