Loved this blending of winter and spring. With one over -riding the other. The imagery unfolded in a sequence of surprise. like the blending also of the winter art and the light green background representing spring.

Hi Shawn,

I learned a new animal name today - thank you for .. ounce!

A gorgeous nature poem. Nice rhyme scheme, steady metre.

The rhyme totters a wee bit with dens/winds, but I'm not complaining. :)

Lovely!

What a beautiful animal, great image, I loved your poem about the flirtatious nature of the seasons, particularly spring, notoriously unreliable in every theatre of the earth! A well designed and composed work, I loved it, an almost poignant and whimsical look at wonderful springtime, I enjoyed it! In nice abab rhyming, with proximate! Even meter! Well done, blessings, Roy.

Stunning photo to complement your poem - you made an excellent choice. We are always surprised by the seasons aren't we? Never quite what we expect, remember or even wish for. Your words were quite visual and I enjoyed the read. AT=/

This is a beautifully written poem, I loved reading it. I have learned about the name of the snow leopard, and that polar bears were black.
The painting is magnificent. I feel the text could be a little larger.

Well done
Mary

    Thank you, Mary. Regarding the polar bears... they're only black cause I assume it's dark in the den. Wouldn't want to go in to check for sure though, lol. It's pretty much the same as saying they're only white 'cause their fur is all frosty. :)MW

Nature is so out of whack , the seasons so askew that someday , regretfully soon, polar bears may be permanently blacked out of existence. I like your poem of winter's surprise. I just don't have a clue as to what you mean by " The ounce is hidden well".

    Thank you, Raven. I guess you missed the author's notes, lol. The painting is of a snow leopard. The snow leopard is also known as an "ounce." Not the measurement ounce... it comes from the Latin word "uncia" I believe, I can't remember for sure. I'd have to look again. If you do a search on snow leopard, and check out Wikipedia. Again, thank you!! :)MW

    That's OK. Others didn't understand it either.

Who are we to define the seasons? And more to the point, how do we define Mother Nature herself. Have we not long severed our life long connection with these things? Our poet valiantly presents us with a chain of images blossoming into metaphors. But as one romantic poet said;
"If winter comes, can spring be far behind?" Of course we can have our personal opinion as does the great Eliot;
"April is the cruellest month, springing lilacs out of the dead ground.../" -Ekim777

In your notes you say that a snow leopard is also called an ounce. Of what? I don't get it. What a beautiful picture of it though. lovely imagery through this poem. The presentation is just perfect.

I love the artwork you choose to go with your poem,
It is a perfect match. I had to smile with the climate change everything and everyone is confused.
Thank you for sharing.
