What a sweet poem, Brooke! I was getting very tired of all of the depressing poetry that has been posted lately. Thank you for cheering me up.

Sally, thanks so much. Turn on the news any hour of the day and you get all the depressing I need. I am in no mood to add to the gloom that the world already supplies in greater than sufficient quantity :-) I'm glad you appreciate my adding some lightness to the mix :-) Brooke

Very good rhyming quatrains Brooke. Shadows can be fascinating to children of all ages.
He never tells me where he's been --
he's more the silent kind,
but if he has a secret life,
I guess I shouldn't mind
a great photo of Sawyer playing with his shadow.
Well done

Hi adewpearl
This is classic, and as always penned beautifully. I love the photo! I'm not sure what age group Shadow Dance is directed at, so I cannot make much comment, but I think the older group, if I imagine my nieces 5 and 7. They wouldn't know what a morning glory is or know what regularity means! I enjoyed. Marion.

I agree, regularity is a word that would need explaining, but I grew up with morning glories growing next to my house - I'm sure I knew what they were when I was two, and Sawyer has them in his neighborhood, so I know he knows what they are also :-) Thanks so much for your feedback, Marion :-) Brooke

I love this poem for the memories it brought back. Growing up, an only child on a farm, with little to amuse me, my shadow became my friend. I learned to make it do all kinds of funny things. Some things about childhood remain the same.

The sun shines a lot in Texas. I think I have probably shared with you how my first graders play with their shadows as they walk back from specials each day. Shadows are about as much fun as reading your poem.

This is a delightful poem that creates a character out of one's shadow. He never tells me where he's been adds to the strength of the shadow as an individual and wondering where he has been when the sun is done also adds fantasy and whimsy to the poem.

This is another poem full of fun imagery. I wish you'd put a book together. I'd buy one.
I like the alliteration and assonance in this phrase because it is so fun to say and sounds so good spoken aloud
between the dusk and dawn

A cleverly written poem about shadows. Without our shadow there'd be no record of our presence here and we wouldn't exist. You always seem to have a good flow and rhythm to your poems, something if I work hard I might be able to achieve. The diversity and depth of your poems means your well worthy of your high standing in the poet rankings.

Maddie, thanks so much - it rains so seldom where he lives that it might be a while before Miranda captures a Sawyer-in-the-rain photo, especially during their drought :-) Brooke
