This reminds me of Robert Louis Stevenson's, "I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me," one of my favorite poems as a child. I love the way you write your own child's garden of verses, with that wonderful child-like quality that nevertheless takes a skilled grown-up poet to capture. Love, Jeanie

This is a nice poem of a child's imaginary friend.

I can just see the child playing with its shadow, very well written.

Good luck with your poem.

Your grandson supplies you with the material that delights us all. Your ability to create a complex poem with layers of meaning from our shadow is your strength. You have an amazing ability and I hope you are planning on publishing these poems with your grandson as the subject "starter" as the theme.

I love the way children have of bringing a sense of awe to things we, as adults, have taken for granted for decades. The discovery of one's shadow and all the games it inspires is one of these pleasures. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Brooke,

A lovely reflection on the life of shadows, something that often puzzles and amuses children I think.

We used to make shadow games with the night lamp, bit also the sun is a great idea. You speak so good with his voice that I think I can hear him chiming happily.

I loved playing on the sidewalk, making my shadow dance, wave arms, kick legs, and turn into long or short pictures.
Great memory poem and so fun todread. You always capture the child inside the adult.
Excellent.

Hi Brooke,

I'm thinking of that children's poem about a shadow by Robert Louis Stevenson. Correct me if I'm wrong. Children are so fascinated by shadows (this has reminded me of how I felt about them when I was a kid). Thanks for the fun!

Hugs,
Lou

Lou, I love that poem too, though not as much as his poem about The Swing :-) Thanks so much :-) Brooke

So smooth. I have noticed that about 50% of the poetry on here is long and drawn out while the other half is excellent and engaging. This poem falls into the latter category. Great.
