Sawyer finds pleasure in the simplest of things, everyday happenings that the rest of us take for granted, and his grandmother is clever enough to write them up in verse, (not to mention his mother who captures those precious moments.) Your poetry is such a pleasure to read and usually has a moral for the rest of us, or at least an example to set, Brooke. Giddy

'Shadow Dance' is a well-written and delightfully entertaining piece. Shadows have always been a mystery to me. It was a pleasure to review this talented poet's work.

Hi Brooke. Thank you again for your message on my homepage. I truly appreciate it. I have had no poetry inside of me for the longest time and maybe I never will but I am trying to review just a little and as always, you have delighted me. This time with more of 'Sawyer's' wisdom through your eyes and pen. Shadows truly are an amazing phenomenon and a child must truly be in awe of his/her little black self always following behind when the sun is shining. 'Sawyer' asks a very good question about where his shadow goes when the sun disappears but regardless of the answer to that question, he just knows, without questioning it, that he and his shadow are inseparable. That is another of the wonderful things about children. They know when NOT to ask questions but just accept. Perhaps that is a similar thing to having faith but you know I am not the expert on that kind of thing. It felt very good to be reading your poetry again my friend for I can be rather lazy and not actually critique it and it also reminded me that some things DO stay the same even though my world otherwise feels very different now. Something huge and irreplaceable is missing but your poetry remains comforting and wonderful to read and I have missed it. xx Carol

I just couldn't stop the 6 stars. They jumped to the head of the of the class.Probably because I had shadows for playmates.
I guess that's because I was an only child, until I was almost ten. I did have neighborhood friends, but they were not always available. Not like a sibling, but you have shadows 'most anytime you have sun.

Thank you so much, mommydear, for your thoughtful comments and generous six stars :-) My sisters are 15 and 19 years older than I am, so I was, in many ways, an only child too :-) Brooke

Awesome! Tell me dear Brooke, have ever written a bad poem, one of which you were ashamed? I certainly think not. You are just that good. I love this poem so much, if I did not know better I would accuse you of showing off. LOL.

nomi, thanks so much :-) I have started some bad poems, but the second I look at what I am composing and see that it is going nowhere, I toss the little "gem" into the wastebasket where it belongs. LOL :-) Some people on site just have bad judgment in what to share and what to chuck :-) Brooke

Me too. Sometimes I get a germ of an idea for a poem and I will start composing, then suddenly it just dies and refuses to go any further. Oh well. The acid test for me is that when a poem virtually writes itself, that is when I know I've got a winner. All of the poems that I am most proud of, pretty much wrote themselves.

Very lovely poem, Brooke. It's a wide-ranging exploration of the 'sun' theme including a subtheme about shadows. I really liked the way the first two verses looked at perspectives about sunshine (eg waking up the morning glories)and the went onto to ask those child-like questions about where shadows hide. The last verse finishes with great positivity about the sun's reappearance each day. Beautifully told in great rhythmic verse.

Great sets of quatrains about our shadows. Abcb rhyme scheme helps it flow smoothly and brings a smile to my face as I remember my own shadow friend. 8-)

Wow, what a great picture of Sawyer and his shadow. Miranda sure knows how to take good pictures. We have so many reasons to celebrate the sun, and especially for a child, to see his shadow. I think they must be in awe to know that this is a part of them that they'll always have, until the sun sets. I wonder if they know where it goes then. Brooke, this is a very clever subject to write about, and I really enjoyed. . .Sharon

Even the Cute Little One's shadow is cute :) He sure has a very active imagination. I remember playing games with my shadow when I was a kid. This is very well written.
