Dean;
Simply marvelous my friend you never cease to amaze me when it comes to your poetry. I truly expected some type of wondrous writing and you did not let me down.
Your experienced rhyming was neither forced nor labored
And the rhythm flowed smoothly throughout your poem because of its excellent tempo and metering and the rhyming which helped in your rhythmic flow.
Your particular piece of poetry has manifested the knowledge, skill and experience needed for success in a particular field such as poetry. You are truly masterful.
I found your poem was written more like a play in which the Raven was more like that antagonist and protagonist of this wonderful play.
I enjoyed very much in the way he disliked humor and the intriguing disparate and enthralled aspects of the one who's going to be carried away which in this instance is you beneath the covers.
Thank you for sharing and posting and may all your future endeavors be good ones.
Alex

This poem flows smoothly; making for an enjoyable and interesting read. A bit creepy, perhaps. But with the ominous graphics, I would find myself a bit disappointed if it weren't.

I find your author's notes always very informative, and equally enjoyable to read.

Thanks for sharing.

Very good and eerie. Actually, I like crows. They're entertaining, if noisy. Your poem fulfills its creepy beginning. Moves along well and paints a vivid picture. Your rhymes and near rhymes work well and don't sound forced. Good job.

A well articulate work, done with poetic scheme and language., Good details in the work too backed up with the author's notes; very informative and educative.

'A Dapper Crow of Blackest Coat' is an exceptionally well-written and blood-chilling piece. This talented poet had the hair on the back of my neck bristling, as I read this. It was a privilege to review a work of this standard.

Excellent, rhymes and very creepy first person account of the supernatural. We sometimes forget that in many cultures the crow represents a keeper of souls on their way to the other side. Well done.

Exceptionally well done, follows Poe I think. The pictures are great especially the moving crow. I didn't see any spelling or grammatical errors.

great poem with photos
"Should I allow myself to go, to plunge into the depths of Sheol;

why would I consider it?," tho' scribed in blood, my fate was writ --

He ripped the blankets off my bed, then lingered just above my head,

his talons gripped, I sought release, lo' as we raised, my heartbeat ceased...

THE CROWS ARE PESKY PESTS THEY HAVE THEIR NOSE INTO EVERYTHING, JUST LIKE A NOSEY NEIGHBOR. SHOWS UP WHEN YOU ARE LEAST EXPECTING IT.

    Yeah, they are really bad around these parts, Country. Scores of 'em, everywhere you look, it seems. maybe that's why I've been having these strange dreams about them, you think? I saw three or four chewing on a deer carcass in the big field behind our house last week. Crows and buzzards all over the thing! But, they help to keep things tidy on good ole Mother Earth.

    I really appreciate your exceptional rating and your conversation, my dear friend. Thanks a million!~Dean

    It was funny you wrote about the crows and buzzards , when my son was over today there was a band of crows lined up on the back porch and a nasty looking buzzard trying to get peanut butter out of a jar we have screwed to the bird feeder. The squirrel chased the buzzard away. There isn't a day goes by that we don't have crows or blackbirds, doves, finches, jays or rabbits, coons, foxes, and a sneaky snake here and there.

Oh yes, this is the Dean I know - it so harkens to me of Poe, for some obvious reasons, but I loved your cadence in this one. I've read it several times and it gets better each time.

I particularly loved: my heartbeat ceased...We flew!

Artwork, as usual, is great for your poem! Nice to see you back...Jean

    Thanks a bunch, Jean, and it really means a lot to me that you liked this one. The dream scared the crap outta' me! I knew the crow was there to come to get me and haul my carcass away, even before it spoke to me. It couldn't be reasoned with, or bargained with, and I woke up as we flew out my window, sweating, and I could barely breathe. Good thing there wasn't a crow there on my windowsill when I did wake up. I would have had a heart attack for sure!

    I am really grateful for your references to Poe, and for the exceptional rating of six stars, too!~Dean:}

    A dream like that would scare me as well - had something happen the other day that got me going - opened my back door and there was bird poop splattered all over- through the screens and onto the window. The canvas canopy above had slits in it and on the concrete there was two drops of jelly bean sized blood spots - that flipped me right out. Bird poop - that much - was from a very large bird. Gotta write about it!
