Who is Shergar? This was a well written verse. I an not sure what it all means. I would see this as just lines of thoughts put together to sound good and rhyme well. Because that is all I took away from it. It was still a very enjoyable piece of poetry to have read and written this response for... John

    Thanks, John.

Shergar, as explained in the notes, was a racehorse who famously disappeared in mysterious circumstances. There's even a movie about him I think.

HI! It is so good but so very rare nowadays to read a poem so very full of giggle making lines and that also finishes with a really deep and long Belly laugh. This should do very well in the Prompt. wiljacro

Thanks so much for the kind review and the six stars - glad you got a good laugh out of this.

'Behind the door' is a little like 'Inside my mind', I think - you never know what's going to pop out of there!

This is the most hilarious poem I have ever read in my life, it deserves an Oscar! there are some fantastic lines in this brilliant poem. it runs along at a pace and the rhyming scheme is exquisite, I love a poet who rhymes there work and has a sense of humor, just wish I had a six!

Eric, thanks for the enthusiastic review and I'll take the Oscar over the six!

This is a delightful romp through my back bedroom. How did you get the key?
Seriously, though.... the rhyming words are very creatively paired, getting more and more outlandish as the poem progresses, even if sounding a trifle contrived at times ( which is quite appropriate here!).
I appreciate the author's notes which explain some of your references, but even without them, the words jump off the page with such total abandon, it's simply great fun just to speak them out loud!
When I first saw the title of this contest, I thought... okay, here comes another "the-boogyman-will-jump-out-and-scare-you-to-death" poem. Instead, you have looked behind the door and found an accumulation of human nature's foibles mixed together with the ridiculous.
My favorite line: "How did they get....? Oh! (quietly snickers)". You naughty thing, you! How fun!
Thanks for brightening my day. Excellent work! And I'm still chuckling.

.... and what else was I rummaging through while I was in your bedroom - once I'd catalogued all the junk, that is?

All about the chuckle, this one, so I'm glad it worked for you. 'Behind the door' is a little like 'Inside my mind', I think - you never know what's going to pop out of there!

Whatever it was... I'm glad I didn't catch you at it! But it was good of you to catalogue the junk, regardless. Thanks!!

solid rhyming couplets
great humor in your listing of the assortment of lost items hiding behind that door
good alliteration in tiny teeth
I'm laughing my head off at the spider as blighter LOL
fun questions about Elvis and Michael Jackson :-)
followed by the listing of all those other famous missing people
I love how the items go from the kind of stuff one actually finds to the wild and then wilder speculations as the speaker's imagination spins out of control :-) Brooke

I believe cleaning this room
Has been put off for too long
Maybe another day won't hurt
But that's what I said last year

Well done with your entry, Buck
