Knowing nearly nothing about poetry and its many styles and structures, I am forced to trust my ears and eyes to find that interests and touches me. Your poems always seem to grab my attention and twist my emotions out of me. Great job. :-)

This is very powerful and emotional. I could feel anguish and fear as I read this. World War One was my fave subject at school and I find myself drawn towards this especially at this time in the UK where we are remembering the fallen and the brave, and the scared young men who were sent to their deaths, and the fortunate soldiers who made it back. 'Over by Christmas' more like 'Welcome to Hell!'

This is very powerful and emotional. I could feel anguish and fear as I read this. World War One was my fave subject at school and I find myself drawn towards this especially at this time in the UK where we are remembering the fallen and the brave, and the scared young men who were sent to their deaths, and the fortunate soldiers who made it back. I must give you 6 stars for the poignancy you bring me. The table is old and told again. Time and time again probably just as pointless. Must young men die? When will the day come when this is no longer sacrifice on the altar egos and profits.

Haunting and dramatic words to describe this 'field of poppies' (the remembrance flower) that claimed so many young and brave soldiers.
I particularly like:
'My time has come to meet the foe, as we go hand to hand' - 'foes' no more in the hereafter.

- around these field(s) where
- who died (along the) way

Hi Deepwater,
A lot of emotion went into this poem and your words are powerful, yet gentle. It reads as a lament of war and dying as it reminds the reader how death and destruction contrast terribly to the beauty of nature.

Nicely done. The picture of soldiers walking through this gentle field is so contrasting and bringing home your point. I think of comparing this red field of poppies to the blood soaked ground of battle. Very good job.

This is a well written ode to the soldiers who gave their lives for their and our beliefs.
I like the soldiers marching through the field of red flowers symbolizing the blood of all those who died in war.
The poem give strong images and makes you want to cry.

I found it compelling reading, but am a little disappointed that you opted for "free style", when just some minor adjustments would convert it into excellent iambic metre. Could you rethink? I know from your other work you have a feel for good metre.
