I love the picture, and I love the philosophy expressed in these twelve lines! The meter and rhymes are delightful and the thoughts are profound. I was only bothered by this one phrase: "its very possibility/ to serve as my incentive," It seemed like the "to" should be "will serve..." or could or might or something besides "to." I'm not sure, but maybe I'm misreading something. Anyway, I love the poem and especially the sentiment. The picture is priceless. MM

Adonna, thank you so much :-) I had a word like might there and then revised while composing. I'll think it over again :-) Brooke

Unusual 8/7/8/7 rhyme Brooke. Just as smooth as your 8/6/8/6/rhyme. The message can apply to anyone really. What a nice picture of Sawyer waiting for his friend. A very enjoyable read. xsx Nancy

Brooke: those two little ones, watching each other intently as she approaches him, has the likings to a great romance novel. I can see that picture gracing the front cover. Fascinating picture and words. Linda

This work has reached the exceptional level

Three quatrains interlocked so well with such a great message within.

The last stanza certainly makes the reader sit up and realize not to waste the precious time we have on this earth.

Thank you for sharing Brooke.

A delightful verse on any level. A profound observation of life
and relationships. Inattention brings on apathy and that can serve as the
ruin of many couples. Sawyer is such a delight to see. He is changing into the little boy and not the baby any more. Smiles, Robin :)

Although inspired by the photograph, this poem holds a global truth. One must seize one's chances in this life. The race is not to the faint-hearted! One has to 'do the asking'. I enjoy these poems of yours with the alternating rhythm of seven and eight syllables; they roll along so smoothly!

I loved the last one I saw with Sawyers tittle girlfriend Chloe, it's a lovely picture, it's also true that love is the overcomer of sorrow, nice simple, yet it has depth to it, Brooke, great inventive abcb rhyming, even meter, well done, blessings, Roy.

Aww, that is so cute, Brooke. Isn't young love sweet. I take it Chloe doesn't live too far away from Sawyer, I can see the outline of a smile on his face, even though he has his back to us, the cheek is raised in a smile. :) I love your poem too, it is wise advice for any age. Really lovely! Sandra :)

Thanks so much, Sandra. She lives only a couple blocks away. They met through play dates arranged by Chloe's nanny and Sawyer's nanny, and then when Sawyer's nanny graduated from college and got a full time job, Chloe's mom and Sawyer's mom made a nanny-share agreement, so they get to see each other every weekday. Brooke :-)

What a good way to do it. Everyone is happy, the children are, and get to see more of each other, and the mums know their child is safe. Perfect. :)

Myra is also a wonderful nanny - she is teaching Sawyer lots of Spanish, and she obviously loves both children.
reply by Sandra Stoner-Mitchell on 09-Aug-2014
Does Chloe speak Spanish? My Chloe is taking Spanish and German in school, but she had a head start on her Spanish. When I lived in Spain she would try simple phrases and learnt quite a bit. It's always easier for children, especially if they want to learn another language. You must let me know how Sawyer gets on.

The only Spanish Chloe speaks is also what she's learned from Myra, who speaks English pretty well, too. Yes, the little ones pick up a new language with amazing ease.
