Beautifully penned. I have heard about London Blitz from an elderly lady who was there as a child. She talked about the bombs and had a special name for them, I can't recall off-hand. The nightmare, and listening to the bombs has never left her mind.
I like how you ended.

I was born in Liverpool, England in 1942, during the height of Germany bombing England, at this time! I enjoyed you're writing about the London blitz during 1942! You have written a very realistic, yet poetic, vignette - that brings to mind the very terror and mind-numbing existence that hung over London during the horrible years of the nightly bombing blitz. Nicely presented :-)

deepwater: how does one emotionally survive bombings like that? I can't even imagine. The property destruction, emotional distress, injury and death of relatives and neighbors, the list goes on and on and on. How could you end the nightmares from this experience? They have to be there. But, you see people just pick up scraps from the debris and begin rebuilding their lives. I guess we all have strength we don't realize. Thanks for writing this poem. It reminds me of the pain of others. livelylinda

Germany really put the hurt on England during WWII but America came to their rescue. Together as faithful allies to each other Berlin and other places looked worse. Well done poet. Shalom.

This is beautifully written. I cannot imagine living through the blitz - and your photo is perfect. I simply cannot get my mind around the fear they all must have suffered ..and some likely still do.
You appear to have captured the intensity of hearing that siren scream, the rush for cover and the beating hearts of those cowered in a basement hope they survive.
Very nicely done on such a sad time in our history. AT=/

Excellent commentary on the experience of those who lived through the war. you have captured the emotions of this little boy and by extension all victims.
We will have another war and it will be even worse since the weapons will be more destructive.
